Guest guest
SrI: Dear BhakthAs : It is my pleasure to forward you the note from Sriman A.M.R.Kannan about the three valuable CD ROMs about Swamy Desika SthOthrams and Uthsavam . Please contact Sriman Kannan to acquire these treasures for your family audio libraries . It is rare to get santhai style instructions to learn Swamy Desika SthOthra Paatams . adiyEn learnt Sri HayagrIva SthOthram in Santhai form front of Garudan Sannidhi at Oppiliappan Koil from a MahA VidhvAn . Once one learns in this manner , correct pronunciations are retained and it is held forever . Swamy Desikan out of His compassion has incorporated the Manthrams of the Moorthys in many of His sthothrams and Men , Ladies and Children can get the benefit of reciting these sthOthrams without the needed initiation from an UpAsakar . adiyEn will continue to write on these sthOthrams one by one . Many of them are already available with meanings at: http://www.Sadagopan.org in the Acharya Section . ************************************************************** Today , let us study one SlOkam in SikhariNi metre from Sri NyAsa Tilakam : MahEndrAgnA VishNu prabhruthishu mahatthva prabhruthivath prapatthavyE tatthvE pariNamitha vaisishtya vibhavAm adhrushyathvam dhoothvaa kamithur-abhigamyathvam Jananeem Sriyam seethApAngAm ahamaSaraNO yaami SaraNam - - - - SrI NyAsa Tilakam : SlOkam 4 The key words of the SlOkam are : " SeethApAngam Sriyam aSaraNa: aham SaraNam yAmi ". adiyEn , who has no other refuge seek SrI Devi known for Her cool , nectar-like KatAkshams . She stays both as UpAyam and PurushakAram for the Bhaddha Jeevan . Her Motherly heart melts over the suffering of the SamsAris and She pushes aside (dhUthvA ) the inapproachability ( adhrushyathvam ) of Her loving consort ( kamithu:) and makes Him easily approachable ( abhigamyathva Jananeem) by the chEthanams . If it is not for Her , the erring Jeevans could not approach Her lord . He has such a deep love for Her and that makes it easy for those , who has Her grace to approach Him readily . Thus She becomes the one , who intercedes on behalf of the chEtanams , who trespass Her Lord's Saasthrams . She displays the guNam of PurushakAram this way . SrI Devi has the Vaibhavam of always being with Her Lord . When the Bhaddha Jeevan performs SaraNAgathy , She is with Her Lord and becomes the UpAyam . Therefore , one has to perform Prapatthi to Them jointly . She casts Her cool and rejuvenating glances on the chEtanans and removes their samsAric taapams . Swamy Desikan uses here two Vedic practises to emphasize the need for performing Prapatthi to both of them together . In one of the Yaj~nams , Havis is offered to the glorious Indhran(MahEndran) . When the Yaj~nam is performed , Vedam says that one should not divorce the glorious attribute of Indhran from Him and offer Havis just to Him as Indhran . It has to be offered jointly for Indhran and His glory as indicated by His nAmam of MahEndhran . Similarly , there are number of Yaagams , where Havis is offered to both Agni and VishNu together . Vedam instructs us that we should not offer Havis seperately to Agni and VishNu . You can not leave one aside for the other. Similarly , Sri Devi has the glory of being always with Her Lord . She does not leave His side even for a second . She is there with Him , when the chEtanam performs SaraNAgathy and serves as UpAyam . Therefore , Prapatthi has to be done to both of them in a state of togetherness . At that time , the most cooling glances of our Mother falls on us and destroys the scorching heat of SamsAram .Therefore says Swamy Desikan that he seeks Her as refuge as She blesses us through the roles of PurushakAram andf UpAyam . One CD contains Swami Desikan's mangalasasana uthsavam at Sri Devadhi Rajan Sannithi on the day of Swami's thirunakshatram. The second set of CDs contains all the sthothrapadam of Swami Desikan in a santhai format. The total duration of these two santhai CDs is around 13 hours. Sriman Satagopa Thathachariyar Swami has done a great service to our community by rendering Swami Desikan's sthothras in a santhai format. Since these slokas have been rendered by Sanskrit scholars, all the slokas have been rendered without a flaw. Adiyen made 100 copies of these CDs with Sriman Thathachariyar Swami's permission for distribution in USA. These CDs is available at the cost of 35$ (for all the 3 CDs). This entire amount of $ 35.00 will go for Swami Desikan's Nithya Thiruvaradhana Kainkaryam. So essentially anyone who contributes 35$ for one day of nithya thiru aradhanam, will get these CDs for free. While writing this appeal I really feel sad and ashamed. We have become so ungrateful to our Poorvarcharyas, we need to sell their own works to collect money for their daily aradhanams!! Anyways, to get these CDs please mail your check to: Nagu Satyan NAMA Inc C/O Nagu Satyan 7821 W. Alder Drive Littleton CO 80128-5522 Please note that the checks should be made payable to "NAMA Inc." After mailing your check, send me an email (kamr at syr dot edu) with your address and adiyen will mail you these precious CDs. Please do not send any personal checks to me. Adiyen also fully aware of the fact that many of us have involved in so many kainkaryams on a monthly basis or some people even on a weekly basis!! But please do give priority to Swami Desikan's nithya aradhana kainkaryam as well. I hope someone will take lead on creating similar santhai format CDs for Swami Kurathazhwan's Pancha Sthavas, Swami Parasara Bhattar's sthothras and other poorvacharyas sthothra padams. Guest guest
Sri: Dear Devotees, During my recent visit to India, I spent a full day visiting Kancheepuram and nearby Divya Desams. I had coordinated my visit with. Dr. Satakopa Thathachariar of Kancheepuram, Trustee of Sri Villakkoli Perumal Thoopul Trust. He was gracious enough to accompany me to see the nearby temples. After the temple/Perumal darshanam, I spent a lot of time with Dr. Satakopan Thathachariar to review the financial status of Sri Villakkoli Perumal Thoopul Vedanta Desikar Charitable Trust, and the auditor’s report. Here is a synopsis of the situation: 1. Per the HRC act, the government collects the hundi donations and compensates the priest at Rs 300/month, the cook at Rs 250/month and the asst priest at Rs 150/month. (I may be off by + or- Rs 50). 2. About 400 gms of rice are given for preparing the prasadam. To offset the disparity and to ensure proper maintenance of the temples, nitya araadhana etc., private trusts have taken up the task of renovating and maintaining some of the very needy temples. One such temple is Sri Villakkoli Perumal Temple, along with Swami Desikan’s temple. Any amount of devotion to our Acharya will not be complete if we do not collectively support these causes. When most of the temples are struggling even to meet the basic needs, we need to think about the priorities in fund raising and question how/where should one’s limited contribution be allocated. Specifically, for the Sri Vilakkoli Perumal and Thoopul Vedanta Desikar Sannidhis, we have about 140 days nithya aradhana covered; leaving a shortage of 226 days coverage. The minimum cost of the daily expenses come to about Rs 1750.00 (approx $35 per day). I appeal to devotees to sponsor multiple days and get the blessings of Perumal and Acharyas. Sri. AMR Kannan has spent his time and resources to copy the CDs and is mailing a set to sponsors on his personal motivation. The trust income per year is around Rs 1,20,000.00 and the expenditure is about Rs 1,95,000.00, resulting in an annual shortage of Rs 75,000.00. The expenditure is for basic items such as daily poojas and prasadam, priest sambhavana to improve their standard of living, supplement the expenses incurred in connection with the Sravanam festival. The goal is to raise adequate corpus funds and use the interest earned for the daily aradhana and priest compensation. May I entreat you to contribute generously to this holy cause and enlist your friends and relatives for this noble cause? I am neither a learned scholar nor a prolific writer. From the bottom of my heart, with all the emotions, all I can state is that I am deeply committed to this and other Srivaishnava related causes and I believe that this cause of raising funds to ensure nitya aradhana to the Lord and the great Acharya Swami Desikan is real and of higher priority. Guest guest
I would like to contribute to the Trust such that it can undertake one day kainkaryam from the interest proceeds of my contribution. Since you state that Rs. 1,750 is needed for one day Kainkaryam, it translates to Rs. 25,000 endowment at 7% interest return. I would like also to get the set of CDs you mention sent to the address I shall give. If this is alright, please indicate the address in India to which I should direct the said funds in Indian Rupees. I am grateful for informing us of this opportunity to participate in the kainkaryam. Guest guest
Dear Devotees Thanks to the devotees who have responded already. Sri AMR Kannan will mail you the CD set. Just a clarification -- the Rs 1,750 amount stated is the actual expenses per day. Yes, we have to meet a target of corpus fund equivalent to $550/day (RS 25,000/day) that will earn Rs 1,750 assuming 7% interest. Also, when you mail the check please identify your sankalpam details and the day you would like to sponsor the nitya araadhana. When I remit to the trust I will send the details. Yes, if you are so inclined, you can sponsor multiple days, you could choose birthdays, wedding anniversary etc. I would like to share the great news--one of the devotees has been so touched by the situation that he has graciously volunteered to match dollar for dollar match from Aug 1 to Purattasi Sravanam day. May the Divya Dampathis and Swami Desikan shower their blessings on this great devotee. Adiyen, Nagalakshmi (Nagu) Satyan B. G. Please make your tax deductible contribution payable to NAMA Inc and mail the check to the following address. NAMA Inc C/O Nagu Satyan 7821 W. Thank you for your kind attention. Adiyen Ramanujadasan Kannan
