Guest guest
PiLLai vuRangAvilli dhAsar-ponAichi The great bhagawadha nishtai of Sri piLLai vuRangAvilli dhAsar and ponnAichi is renowned. Here is one incident created by Sri RAmAnujar himself to make this world to realise their large heartedness and bhAgawadhA nishtai. Sri RAmAnujA asked a few srEvaishNavites, in the late hour of the night when viilli dhAsar was with him, to visit PiLLai vuRangAvilli dhAsar's residence and remove the jewels from pon-Aichi who must be fast asleep. Accordingly, they made a beeline to her house and saw that she was sleeping resting her left side on the floor and the right side was adorned with jewels and ornaments. The left side also was so decorated but was near the floor making it difficult to remove deftly. On seeing the srEvaishNavites, she feigned sleep and permitted them to remove the ornaments without any problem whatsoever from the right side. After they had removed so, to facilitate them to remove the jewels on the other side also, she tried to rest the right side on the floor to make it easy for the srEvaishNavites to take off with the booty. However, when she so turned, they thought that she had woken up and legged it fast towards Sri RAmAnujA s thirumALigai and narrated the incident. EmperumAnAr now asked them to follow Sri villi dhAsar who was by then, going back to his residence, and observe the discussion between the couples. On entering the house, Sri vuRangAvilli dhAsar was astonished that she was wearing the ornaments on one side alone and the other was completely bereft of any jewels. He asked her the truth. She narrated the incident explaining that when she turned the other side to enable them to take off the valuables, they ran away. ' Now, here comes the hihglight. VuRangAvilli dhAsar condemned her for exhibiting swAthanthriyam. 'After all the jewels are theirs nd it is up to them to remove it to their desire. By turning to the other side you have exposed your swAthanthriyam and made these jewels useless. The jewels taken by them have become useful but here remaining with you is indeed of no use" PonAichi wanted to help the srEvaishNavites by enabling them to remove the jewels and turned. PiLLai vuRangAvilli dhAsar also wanted to see that the srEvaishNavites are benefitted. The argument ensued for a common cause but on different counts. Nevertheless, the large heartedness of the couples has no match like them. dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan
