The month of SrI rAmAyaNam for us is coming to its end soon. The houses in

Kerala are filled with SrI rAma smaraNa, and the recitation of SrI adhyAthma

rAmAyaNam of thunchathu rAmanujan ezhutthachan. How we see thunchatthu

achAryarn is as the father of malayALam, and the gifted acharya who gave us

the amritham of SrI rAmA katha through SrI adhyAthmA rAmAyaNam kiLippATTu.

 

With utmost SrI rAma bhakthi thunchathu rAmAnujAn ezhutthachan wrote SrI

adyathma rAmayaNam. His SrI rAmabhkthi was to that extent where he saw all

characters in SrI rAmAyaNam as SrI rAmabhakthAs, in one way or other. So

how can rAvaNa be a SrI rAmabhakthA ?? To understand this question one

should also think of the previous history of rAvaNa. In SrImad bhAgavatham

3rd canto, chapter 15&16 there is a story regarding jaya and vijaya being

cursed by saunaka etal., hence the excommunicated (from vaikunTam) jaya and

vijaya were so upset that they lost the kainkaryam. Immediately Sriya:pathi

came into scene and consoled them that they will take birth as mortals for

three janmas and come back to vaikuntam and in all the three janmas they

take birth as rakshasa yOni with kOpa: smaraNa on SrIman nArAyaNan. In all

the three births bhagavan him self will kill them and end of the third birth

the curse will be over. So what was their first birth ? " hiranyaksha and

hiranyakaSipu" both got finished off by SrI varAha perumAL and SrI narasimha

mUrthi. Their kOpA : smaraNa of bhagavan is so famous....paLLIyilothi vantha

siruvan vAyil orAyira namam...." The second birth was our anti hero rAvaNa

and kumbhakarna. The third was SisupAla and danthavakthra. Lets concentrate

on our character rAvaNan

 

It is specifically mentioned in SrI adhyathma rAmAyaNam that rAvaNa was

well aware of his pUrvvajanma vrithAtham so he was well determined to

increase the kOpAm of bhagavAn towards him so that an easy death was

awaited. So when sUrppaNakha advices rAvaNa to fetch sIthA pirATTi,

rAvAnA's contemplation go this way

 

 

 

" vyaktham mAnushan alla rAman ennathu nUnam

 

Raman is not a common human being it is very much clear

 

Bhaktha vathsalanAya bhagavAn pathmEkshaNan

 

mukthi dAnaika mUrtthi mukundan muthi priyan

 

praises to lord (self explanatory)

 

dhAthavu munnam prArthhicchOru kAraNaminnu

 

bhUthalE marthyanAy piRannipOL

 

the sarvveSwaran with the request of brahma took birth on earth as a human

and now

 

enne kolluvAnorumbeTTu vannAn enkilO

 

if he comes to kill me

 

chennu vaikuNTa rAjyam paripAlikkamallO

 

I can go back to vaikuntam and resume my duties

 

vidwEsha buddhyA rAmAn thane prApikkayuLLU

 

rama will be prApyam to me only through hatred and anger

 

bhakthi koNdennil prasAdikkayili lESan (from SrI adhyAthma rAmAyaNam)

 

if I show bhakthi, he wont be pleased on me

 

 

 

so he was cleaver enough to make an act which increase the fury of the

sarvva Sakthan towards rAvaNa. Similar feelings of rAvANa reflect when he

talk to mArIchan too. When mArichan advices rAvaNa that SrI rAman is

sarrvaSakthan himself and sIthA is periya pirATTiyAr herself, so leave all

nIchA chintha about them and take refuge in their lotus feet. rAvANan

replies him simply like this

 

 

 

"nErathrE paRanjathu nirMalan allO vahaban

 

You said the truth O nirmalan (marichan is nirmalan only because he told the

truth about rama )

 

SrI nArAyaNa swAmi paraman paramAthmA thAn

 

aravindOthbhavan thannoTu sathyam cheythu

 

reflects the same words as in above verse

 

marthyanAy piRannenne kollAn bhAvicchathu

 

sathyA sankalpanyAya bhagavAn thAnenkilO

 

if the sathya sankalpan decides to kill me as a human form

 

pinne avvaNNam illennu Akkuvan AL areTO

 

Who can prevent it? Oh friend !!!

 

 

 

there are similar thinkings of rAvaNa all over the yuddha kAnDam part of

adhyAthma rAmAyAnAm. It is also said that even before hanuman reaches lanka,

rAvaNA has a dream of hanumans lankA pravESam and the forth coming yuddham

and there after he was impatiently waiting for the bhagavad prApthi thru

rAmA virOdham.
