Known as Pushpa mandapam, the place is the abode of Sriyapathi that

can be accessed by both the samsaris and nityasuris. Perumal in this

place was a close friend of a great bhakta called Thondaman

Chkravarthy (King). They were so close that Perumal did Matropadesam

to the king.

Pushpa thyAga bhOga mandapangalil panippoovum, Aravattamum, veenaiyum

kaiyumAna antharangarai mudimannavanum, vaidhigOthammarum,

mahAmuniyum anuvartitha kramam

aDiyEn got the opportunity to write on the above verse in AchArya

Hrudayam by Nayanar few months back, and hence will not be getting

into more details of it. ThiruVenkadam is the place where even

nityasuris come down to do Pushpa kaimkaryam. This can be inferred

form NammAzhwar's pasuram:

sumanthu maamalar neersudar dheepamkoNdu, amarnthu vaanavar vaanavar

kOnodum, namanRe zumthiru vEngadam nangatku, saman_koL veedu

tharumthadaNG kunRamE (3.3.7)

This Perumal is so special that the very opportunity of performing

pushpa kaimkaryam here will grant moksham (nitya kaimkarya prApti) to

the soul. Kurumbarutha Nambi was a bhakta who used ot perform pushpa

kaimkaryam to this Perumal with the left over mud every day (For

details please refer to the posting on Pushpa, thyAga, bhOga

mandapam...).The pushpa kaimkaryan that he did refers to the

ashtavidham pushpam that each soul should offer to Perumal. They are:

Ahimsa Indriya Nigraham Daya Kshama Jnanam Tapas Dyanam Satyam

Thirumalai Ananthanpillai was a great MahApurushA who has performed

Pushpa kaimyam to this Perumal with the command of Sri Ramanujar. The

kaimkaryam is not restricted to just these great souls. Even the

monkeys living in Thirumalai perform Pushpa kaimkaryam to

ThiruVenkadamudayAn regularly. This can be inferred from the second

thiruvandhAdhi pasuram of BhoothathAzhwar:

pOthaRinthu vaanarangaL pooncunaipukku, aangalarntha pOtharinthu

koNdEtthum pOthu,uLLam - pOthu maNivENG kadavan malaradikkE sella,

aNivENG kadavanpE raaynthu (72)

Azhwar says that even the monkeys living in Thirunmalai poerform

kaimkaryam by manas (thoughts on Hari), vAk (recite Hari nAmam in

Brahma muhUrtham) and kAyam (collecting flowers from various trees).

Let us get back to the Periya Thirumozhi pasuram with which we ended

the last posting.Azhwar talks about the AshtAkshara mantram in that

pasuram. Instead of calling it as mantram, he quotes it as nAmam. The

same Thirumangai Azhwar refers to this again as mantram in

ThirunedunthAntakam as "andhaNarmaat tanthi vaittha mandhiratthai,

mandhiratthaal maRavaa thenRum vaazhuthiyEl vaazhalaam madaneN sammE"

Let us stop here for this posting with a pasuram on ThiruvAli

Thirunagari Divya Desam sung by our same dear Kaliyan, which we will

enjoy from next posting

ganNdha maamala rettumittu niNnkaamar sEvadi kaithozhudhezhum,

punNdhiyEn manatthE pugunNdhaayaip pOgalottEn, sanNdhi vELvi sadangku

nNaanmaRai Odhi yOdhuvith thaadhi yaayvarum, anNdha NaaLa

raRaavaNiyaali yammaanE

Just to be in sync with what we began to see from earlier posting, we

wil enjoy the pushpa kaimkaryam referred to by Azhwars with reference

to the number 8.P.S. aDiyEn requests the interested readers to refer

to the previous series on Mandaptrayam for more details.
