V.S - kbharat rangapriya Thursday, September 01, 2005 3:13 AM [rangapriya] (rangapriya)Swamiji's Janmashthami Message Archana Ravindar <ravindar (AT) india (DOT) hp.com>Fri, 02 Sep 2005 10:40:32 +0530Last saturday, Swamiji spoke in the context of Krishnajayanthi andjanmastami. It is believed that the lord's advent canbe celebrated onthe day adorned by the astami thithi or the rohinistar. Both areequally auspicious.Swamiji said that while we perform the final Arathi onthis occasion, the following two slokas from Srimad Bhagavatham areto be recited-DevakyAm deva rUpiNyAm VISHNU: sarva guhAsaya:aavirAsIdh yathA prAchyAm disIndhuriva pushkala:(The verse that actually describes the advent)andrUpam yath tath prAhu: avyaktham aadhyamBrahma jyOthirnirguNam nirvikAram IsatthAmAthram nirvisEsham nirIhamsa tvam SaakshAth Vishnu: adhyAthm adhIpa:are to be recited.(Spoken by devaki praising the lord's virtues)(For transliteration of these verses: referhttp://www.ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/sep98/0076.html)And while reciting these verses the meaning of theword "Krishna" shouldbe deeply meditated upon. Krishna commonly means onewho is of a darkcomplexion. But in this context Krishna means one whoattracts all jivasonto Himself. The other meaning of Krishna can be gotby splitting theword into two halves "Kr" and "Shna" whichcollectively means"satchidananda" or pure bliss, one who is anandaswaroopa. If one asks Why is Krshna so attractive? he or sheshould rather ponderupon what is it in krishna that doesnt attract anyone. To begin with Hehas the most charming personality. He adorns thefragrant Tulsi garlandthat overwhelms one's senses. With His bewitchingpitambara He fills theeyes with His beautiful form bent in three places. Heis the mostrenowned flute player that the universe has everknown. He fills theears with soul filling music arising from His Venu. Totop it all, HEadorns a peacock feather which can be perhaps said tobe unique only tokrishna and no other god. It is not that the lord isnot capable ofwearing anything more grand as a crown. The simplepeacock feather hintsat the tattvas hidden in the upanishads. The featheris comprised of somany different colors which is what makes it visuallyattractive. Thisaspect of the feather signifies maya which succeeds inpulling one downto the level of the prakriti from the realm of purebliss. This powerfulMaya is however nothing but an ornament to the lord.He is in fullcommand of it and controls it. Further the feathercontains three orbsthat symbolize the three mandalas known to the Yogiswho contemplate onthe Lord. The central piece in the peacock featherresembles the pranavaakaara which hints that Krishna is the same lord thatVedas glorify asParamatma. The feather thus forms a very pure symbolsignifying thevarious aspects of the lord. So pure that the breezethat comes aloftthe feather succeeds in purifying one removing allhis/her sins. Thisauspicious day should be spent in silencecontemplating on His form andleelas without indulging in mundane activities.Srimathe Rangapriya Mahadeshikaya nama:
