Guest guest
Sri: Dear Srimathy SangeethA : Regarding your two questions , here are some thoughts: A. Namakam is Sri Rudram; Nmaakam and Chamakam are part of Yajur Vedam . The PanchAkshari Mantram dear to Siva worshippers is right at the middle of Namakam . Rudram and Chamakam are part of Vedam and are learnt by one and all . Chamakam follows . The details on Chamakam , its meanings are available at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shri_Rudram_chamakam You can also access it at http://www.mypuroith.com B. Sooktham is both a general term and a specific term . Rg Vedam is the oldest of the Vedams . It is divided in to either MaNDalams or Ashtakams . MaNDalam is further divided into Anuvaakam and Sooktham . Ashtakam is divided into AdhyAyam , Vargam , Rk and antham . Sookthams or individual Rg Veda Manthrams(clusters) about a specific topic . The Pancha Sookthams for instance refer to Purusha Sooktham et al , which are recited every day . There are other groupings of Sookthams . For instance , the First anuvAkam with its 24 Sookthams realtes to the purification of the SthUla sareeram ( Physical Body) . The 36 Sookthams of the 2nd anuvAkam deals with the purification of the mi ( Sookshma Sareeam) . The final 7 sookthams of the third anuvAkam are addressed to the 7 regions of the spirit ( KaaraNa Sareeram). There are many similar groups of Sookthams on the different Veda Manthrams to reflect upon . Yesterday I recieved the tape of the Purusha Sooktam containing its recitation in the way in which different available SaakhAs of the 4 Vedam recite . I am waiting for the completion of the recording of Purusha Sooktham in Saama Veda SaakhA of RaaNAyini . Hope to have it recorded at Thirumala duirng the October visit to Lord Venkatachalapathy's sannidhi .
