Dear AasthikAs:

adiyEn had arrived on Oct 17 Morning in Chennai. It was a PourNami day ,

Lord RanganAthA's Nakshathram (Revathy) was ascendant . Chandra grahaNam

was on and Vishuva PuNya Kaalam prevailed .

After release from GrahaNam , Japams and TarpaNams , we headed

to ThiruvallikkENi to have the darsanam of Lord ParthasArathy . As our

car arrived in front of the Mantapam linked to the Main gOpuram

entrance , sweet waves of Music from the temple Naathaswara VidwAn

was heard in all directions .

The Raagam was NaLiNakAnthy fit for the evening and the TaaLam

was dEsAdhi. The krithi was the one made famous by late Flute Mali :

" Manavi nAlakinch raadhaDE ? " of Saint ThyagarAja . Here the composer

is having an argument with his mind along these lines : " Oh My Mind !

Why wont You listen to the appeal of some one like myself , who has

experienced the cool nectarine outpourings of the noble heart of Lord

Ramachandra ?

I will let you in on the whole secret . After having seen the sufferings of

those who preoccupied themselves with the dry rituals prescribed by

the Karma KaaNDa section of the VedAs and also seeing those , who have

been wandering in the dark forests of SamsArA , our Lord has shown Himself

in a human incarnation (as KrishNaa) to show us the right path (to Moksham).

Coming closer to the location from where the delectable music was

coming from , we had a most delightful surprise . Uthsavar ParthasArathy

was standing there in front of the Eastern Temple entrance to bless us all and

show

us the right path . Saaya raksha pooja was taking place after the Veethi

PuRappAdu

for Maasa PiRappu. Had the star of the day been Revathy , Lord Ranganatha

Uthsavar

(MannAthar) would have gone on Veethi PuRappADu instead of Lord ParthasArathy .

The great good fortune of that evening was that our Lord had ordained us

to be in front of Him at the exact time, when he was resting on the back of

Paadham Tangis and to enjoy the waves of NalinikAnthy raaga Kruthi wafted by

the gentle sea breeze . We had the sevai of GeethAchAryan as Thirumazhisai

enjoyed : " neeLOtham vanthlaikkum Maamayilai MaavallikkENiyAn " .

Swamy PeyAzhwAr arrived in front of Lord PaarthasArathy on one such evening

and saw the interplay between the waves breaking in to forms of white pearls

on the walls of the temple and at the sacred feet of the Lord and the magical

interplay between the setting Sun and the breaking waves :

vanthu-udaittha veNDiraikaL sempavaLa veNN muttham

anthi viLakku ManivilakkAm, --- Yenthai

oruvallitthAmarayAL onRiya Seer-mArbhan

ThiruvallikkENiyAn enRu

----- PeyAzhwAr: 3rd ThiruvandhAthi: 16th Paasuram

(Meaning): " The Lord , whose chest is adorned by MahA Lakshmi ,

who had left off Her abode of the large broad-petalled lotus and has

to come to stay at Thiru-AllikkENi .The shores of this place shine in

illumination

from the corals and pearls that have been washed ashore by the chasing waves of

the nearby sea as the Sun sets . The Lord has settled in this dhivya dEsam

presumably to

come to me , who is close by . He is my Master".

Of that dhviya MangaLa roopan , Thirumangai sang in his Periya Thirumozhi(2.3):

" PaarTan thEr munn NinRAnai --ThiruvallikkENi kaNDEnE " ( adiyEn saw at

ThiruvallikkENi , the Supreme JyOthi that stood in front of the Chariot of

Arjuna

performing GeethOpadEsam .

Thirumangai went on to describe the exquisite , matchless anubhavam of

darsana soubhAgyam of this ThiruvallikkENiyAn as :

Vedatthai Vedatthin Suvaippayanai vizhumiya munivar vizhungum ,

kOthin kaniyai NandanAr KaLiRRaik-kuvalayatthOr thozhuthu yEtthum,

Aadhiyai amudhai yennaiaaLudayappanai oppavarillA-matharkaL vaazhum

Maadamaamayialit-ThiruvallkkENi KaNDEnE

Andal in Her NaacchiyAr Thirumozhi( 14.5) revealed that She saw that Lord

adorning

His PeethAmbharam and moving around the streets of BeundhAvanam like

a majestic , young blue cloud :

" Peethakavaadai thAzhap-perum kaar mEkam pOl

VeethiyAra-varuvAnai VirunthAvanatthatthe kaNDOmE "

Here at BrundhAraNya KshEthram , the same Lord presented Himself to PeyAzhwAr

and Thirumangai and they acknowledged His sevai with "KaNDEnE ".

It is interesting that adiyEn's KshEthrAdanam started at ThiruvallikkENi (

BrundhAraNya

KshEtham) and concluded in NaacchiyAr ThirumaLikai , SrivilliputthUr,

where ANDAL sang the series on " BhrundhAvanatthE KaNDOmE " at the conclusuion

of

Her search for the Lord .

After the SandhikkAppu , Lord ParthasArathy looked radiant during this TulA

SankramaNa

PuNya Kaalam . The matchless beauty of Lord ParthasArathy can be enjoyed in the

excellent

pictures taken by Smt. Sumitra VaradarAjan , a devout native of ThiruvallikkENi

Now PerumAl with His Ubhaya NaacchiyAr left the Mantapam and proceeded forward

to the temple past Bali Peetam and dhwaja Sthambam . The way in which the famous

Paadham ThAngis of ThiruvallikkENi temple carried Him into the SaaRRu MuRai

ManTapam

was an unforgettable sevai.

After He settled down to lend His ears to the evening SaaRRumuRai , adiyEn went

inside

the Garbha gruham to have the sevai of Lord ParthasArathy accompanied by Sri

RukmiNi ,

Aniruddhan , Pradhyumnan , BalarAman and Saathyaki . Here under the Aanandha

VimAnam ,

the Lord of Thirumala presented Himself as KaNNan in response to the prayers of

King ThoNdaimAn.

Because of the Uthsavar PuRappAdu , there were very few people at the Moolavar

Sannidhi.

adiyEn performed MangaLAsAsanam using Thirumangai's auspicious words :

ViRRperu Vizhavum Kanjanaum Vezhamum Paahanum veezha seRRa PerumALE !

PaRRalar veeyak-kOl kayil koNDu PaarTan tann thEr munn ninRa PerumALE !

Aham ThvA Sarva PaapEbhyO MokshayishyAmi , Maa Sucha: yenRu rakshikkum PerumALe

!

Tava daasOham yenRu namaskaitthukkoNdu , we moved on to Lord Vedavalli's sanidhi

..

The sevai here was peaceful and auspicious . The MangaLAsAsana Archaa Moortham

of

the Vara PrasAdhi Sri Vedavalli ThAyAr and Her sErthi Sevai with Her Lord

RanganAthan

(MannAthan) can be enjoyed at :

Our next sannidhi was that of GajEndhra Varadhan :

" Aanayin thuyaram theerap-puLLUrnthu senRu ninRAzhi-thottAnai ,

tEnamar sOlai Maada-Maamayilai ThiruvallikkENI KaNDEnE "

--- 9th ThiruvallikkENi Paasuram of Thirumangai).

Here , He presents Himself as AnATa Rakshakan and Aapath BhAndhavan

and as the Supreme One , who responded with alacrity to the wailing of

the GajEndhran as it suffered pain from the jaws of the crocodile in the lotus

pond .

It was now our turn to move on and seek the blessings of " TeLLiya SingamAhiya

Devu "

at Tennan ThoNDayarkkOn seytha Nannmayilai ThiruvallikkENi . Many devotees

were there because of Maasa PiRappu . The Lord's sevai can be enjoyed at

There were no Bhattars at ANDAL Sannidhi . We had our darsanam thru the gates

and had final stop at MadappaLLi to take home BhagvAn's PrasAdhams .

It was an auspicious start for the Journey to other dhivya dEsams .

In the next posting , adiyEn will describe the trip to ThirucchAnUr and

Thirumala .
