NamO Sri VenkatEsAya , V.Sadagopan - Jayasree Saranathan sadagopaniyengar Cc: sgopan ; mkrishnaswamy Friday, November 11, 2005 11:34 PM The 5 questions :-) SrI: Respected swamin, It was a delightful experience to read your "Six Questions". This is just an addition to what you have already so eloquently said. In the list of groupings on the basis of number of things, questions come under number 5. Questions are of 5 types or there are "Ivagai vinaa". A person may ask questions for the purpose of any of these 5. They are (1) Ariyaan vinaaval - when he does not know, a person will raise the question. (2) Arivoppu-k-kaandal - when he wants to compare what he knows with what the other person knows, he will raise questions. (3) Iyyam theerdal - he may ask questions to clear his doubts. (4) Avan arivu thaan kOdal - he may ask questions to check how much the other knows (like in exam system) (5)Mei avarkku-k-kaattal - he may ask questions to reveal the truth to the student, as done by teachers in upanishads. I think Yudhishtra's questions come under the 3rd category, to clear his doubts, since he must have already known the answers to them. Just thought of sharing this with you. Thank you, Regards, jayasree saranathan.
