Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:

Once Bhattar was explaining the meaning of the phrase

"mUda ney peydhu muzhangai vazhi vAra" from the 27th

pasuram of Thiruppavai.

Bhattar explained that because the milk rice was fully

covered in ghee it was running from the hands of the

gOpikas up to their elbows.

Nambi Thiruvazhudhivalanadu Dhasar asked Bhattar "Why

would the ghee run down their hands? Would it not stay

in their mouths?"

Bhattar answered "When the gOpikas looked at Lord

Krishna, they forgot everything else including the

food in their hands. So, they did not put it into

their mouth. If they had done so, the ghee might

have stayed in there. But, staring at Krishna, they

kept the food in their hands and the ghee ran to their

elbows."
