1: Highlights about this sthalam and sannidhi

Brief Temple History:

 

=> Thirukurukur became Azhvarthirunagari after Nammazhvar.

Alwarthirunagari is situated on the banks of the river Thamirabarani,

which is 32 KM's east of Thirunelveli. Azhvarthirunagari is one among

Nava Thirupathi Dhiviya Desam.

 

=> Mathurakavi Azhvar took Nammazhvar as his "Acharya". After hearing

Thiruvaimozhi from Nammazhvar, Mathurakavi Azhvar sung "Kanninunn

Siruthambhu" in praise of Nammazhvar. He requested his Acharya for

his "vigraha" to worship for himself and for the benefit of future

generations. On his Acharya's direction, he boiled the holy water of

river Thamirabarani, where an idol with "Anjali Hastham" emerged

first. They realized the idol as "BhavishyathAcharian" (Future

Acharya). BhavishyathAcharian was later called as "the Emperumanar

(Ramanujar)". Nammazhvar had made mangalasasanam in his

Thiruvaimozhi "Poliga, Poliga, Poliga (5 ch, 2) in favour of

BhavishyathAcharain.

 

=> The same "Bhavishyathacharya" vigraha is in this Emperumanar

Sannidhi in Azhvarthirunagari.

 

=> The current temple here was constructed by Thiruvaimozhi Pillai

(Mamunikal's Acharya), to host the Bhavishyad Acharyan Sannidhi.

 

=> Seventh Pontiff of of this Emperumanar Mutt: H.H. Sadagopa

Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamigal gave sanyasa ashrama to "Manavala

Mamunikal".

 

=> Manavala Mamunikal composed "Yathiraja Vimsathi" in praise of

Emperumanar at this sthalam..On hearing this 20 slokas in sanskrit,

Thiruvaimozhi Pillai titled him as "Yatindra Pravanar".
