yas tv Atmaratir eva syAd AtmatrptaS ca mAnavah |

Atmany eva ca samtushTas tasya kAryam na vidyate ||

(3.17) 38

That man who shall rejoice in the Self, alone, who is completely satisfied

with the Self, and satisfied in the Self, alone, is content. For him there

is no work to be done.

nai 'va tasya krtenA 'rtho nA 'krtene 'ha kaScana |

na cA 'sya sarvabhUteshu kaScid arthavyapASrayah ||

(3.18) 39

For him, indeed, in this world, there is nothing to acquire through action,

nor is there any reason not to do such action. Nor has he to depend on

anyone for anything.
