Guest guest
The masjority of religions present as more or less complicated systems founded on faith and belief, in which, if progress is made long enough, understanding will slowly dawn. Ramana's 'Self-Enquiry'is radically different in that it poses at the outset all the most 'secret' revelations. >From soon after birth, I had no reason to ask "Who am I?"; the answer was readily available on my birth certificate. I was told that I was of a certain age, gender, colour, race, religion, politics, language - and accepted it all without question. At about ten, however, I became a 'scientist' and was given a bumper book explaining everything I hadn't till then even thought of. With immense satisfaction, I learned that I was enough iron to make three 4" nails; sulphur and phosphorus for one box of matches;etc, - and, not least, half a small cask of water. Which contented me till about 20. That small cask of water performed every action predestined throughout my life, including anything my parents might term a 'sin'. So I was happy. But when filling out official forms, it was necessary to pretend that I thought I was a person with gender, race, etc. With six billion such people (or casks) on the planet, supposed to be intelligent, one might imagine that at least one would have mused who or what determines that it is illegal to allow one's consciousness to identify with any 'other' form. That we must confine awareness solely within a skull-box or ivory tower. That this identity was determined before birth, and cannot be changed- the walls of my pink castle separating me forever from 'that tree' or any other form. I would be well-cared for by my gaoler provided in return I never tried to stray. The qualifications didn't cease at birth; every day I need new ones, such as pro- or anti-episcopalian. Am I such a vampire that I need to be staked to the ground by so many labels? Nasrudin http://personals..au - Personals New people, new possibilities. FREE for a limited time.
