Guest guest
Namaste All, Thought you may be enjoy this bit of humor with a serious intent--a collection of some cliches that I gave advaita interpretations to. Thanks to Alan for some suggestions for cliches in private email. :-) David ===============Cliches for Advaita================================= Home is where the heart is: The Heart is. It is what and where we are, our Home. Curiosity killed the cat: Atma Vichara. A watched pot never boils: Intensely watching every thought as it starts to arise keeps the mind from boiling with thoughts. Nip it in the bud: Catch each thought as it starts to arise. Love it or leave it: Without devotion to Self, attention leaves the Self to attend the non-Self. Get a grip on yourself: Self-abidance. Hold your horses: Mind Restraint. You have to separate the wheat from the chaff: Discriminate between the Real and the unreal. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water: Discriminate between the Real and the unreal. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative: Focus on the Self, to the exclusion of the non-Self. I am the Self which is not this, not that (Neti, Neti). All roads lead to Rome: By whatever path, Self is the final attainment. There's more than one way to skin a cat: There's more than one approach to revealing the Self. You'll know it when you see it: Self-abidance is the supreme knowledge. When the Self is "seen", there will be no doubt that It is seen. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink: The waters of Self-realization will be drunk only if there is a thirst for Self-realization. Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies: Questions and answers are in the realm of Maya. All verbal answers are not the Truth, which must be found in Silence. Dat dawg (that dog) don't hunt no more: When the mind comes to rest in the Self, there is no further searching. Love conquers all: Devotional Self-abidance overcomes Maya. Guest guest
Namaste All David, That was hilarious...All credit to you, a few more here 1. A rose called by anyother name would smell just as sweet-- Call it Sat, Bliss, truth, whatever, Consciousness is one 2. Proof of pudding is in the eating - there is no point in endlessly debating about the nature of consciousness, experience it 3. Set a thief to catch a thief - You have to use the mind to transcend the mind 4.Nearer to God farther from Heaven - Nearer to the ' I am the body' feeling farther from the 'I-I' 5. All roads lead to rome- All methods, japa, bhakti, Karmyoga etc. lead to consciousness 6. One man's meat is another man's poison - Dvaitins cannot seem to stand the nectarine Advaita ( and vice-versa) 7.All work and no play makes jack a dull boy - An obsession with book learning ( Panditya) without the Rasa of love makes for a dry seeker. 8. A fool and his money are soon parted- If your vasanas are not burnt and roasted you could loose all that you gained spiritually. 9.When you shoot, shoot; Don't talk- When you meditate don't let your mind chatter. Many PRanams to all sridhar RamanaMaharshi, David McEwen <David.McEwen@e...> wrote:
