Guest guest
Dear Shyam, Was Ganapati Muni pained by the partition events in 1947? I have heard from some people that Ramana was asked to play some role in the Indian Independence movement but he declined. Also I have read somewhere that Mahatma Gandhi was not allowed by his "handlers" to visit Ramana because they were afraid that the Mahatma would not leave, or would reach self-realization, thereby reducing his "effectiveness" in the Independence movement. Are any of these things known to you? If anyone else in this group knows something about these issues, please feel free to respond. When I came across this quote by Ramana I right away made it the background for my computer's desktop. Indeed I find it to be the very culmination of both bhakti and inquiry/jnana. With best wishes, Ashish ============== Thanks Ashish, this is a powerful quote that gives solace to people buffeted by bumps, skirmishes, perplexities and dilemmas of life. Bhagavan gave this advice to Ganapati Muni who was pained by many events happening in the country and sought divine intervention to achieve a miraculous transformation. Yours in Bhagavan, shyam Ashish Mahajan <ash.mahajan wrote: "Place your burden at the feet of the Lord of the Universe who accomplishes everything. Remain all the time steadfast in the Heart, in the transcendental Absolute. God knows the past, present and future. He will determine the future for you and accomplish the work. What is to be done will be done at the proper time. Don't worry. Abide in the Heart and surrender your acts to the Divine."
Guest guest
As a modern day incarnation of the Vedic rishis, Ganapati Muni was pained by the way India was subjugated by the British Raj and the way Indians were being led astray by the impact of western culture and education. You could read Nayana's (as Bhagavan fondly called him) biography (published by ashram) on this. Also read T.K. Sundaresa Iyer's (At the Feet of Bhagavan) on how the humble school teacher came under the spell of Ganapati Muni, the mighty tapasvin, and was converted to his mission to set up a countrywide network of devotees whose aim was to win Independence for India through prayers and rituals. Ganapati Muni also briefly flirted with politics to advance this cause but wiser counsel prevailed, thanks to Bhagavan's influence. Bhagavan's advice to pursue the Self and leave everything else to the Supreme curbed his intense appetite for activity and drove him to meditation. It was during one such occasion, when he was meditating in a Ganapati temple in Tiruvottriyur, that Bhagavan physically descended upon him from the skies as it were, and blessed him. Several contemporary authors speak about Mahatma Gandhi being dissuaded by his "handlers" from visiting Maharshi though he had passed through Tiruvannamalai. He was then accompanied by Rajaji (C.Rajagopalachari) who, it is alleged, was against the visit. It was Rajaji who later inaugurated the renovated Patala Lingam at Arunachaleswara Temple. This is described in detail (with photo) in Feroza Taleyarkhan's momoirs.
