Guest guest
Om Namo Bhavanee, Sri Ramanaaya..... Dear Friends There has been some quiet talk over the past couple of weeks about opening a Room devoted to Ulladu Narpadu, The Forty Verses. Robert Butler, who translated the book Sri Ramana Anubhuti into English for the Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning in Bangalore, has made a complete translation of the first Forty Verses, along with very detailed notes explaining how Bhagavan's language works, and taking the verses and lines word by word, phrase by phrase. What is more, he has written the exposition in the form of Tamil Learning Lessons, so that the reader goes through the process of learning Tamil, with the base tool being the Forty Verses. Some of the explanations are very detailed indeed, and in places hearken back to actual questions about the poem which were asked to Sri Bhagavan Himself. I'm moving through this work very slowly, and am very happy that the intricate processes involved have been so clearly explained in English. For me, it is the sadhana work I have been praying for. I put the question to Rob about having a Room where his work can be studied, and he gave such a project his blessing. So I've been trying to sort out a few guidelines and objectives. (1) It's felt that posting a few of his verses at a time is the best; hoping that suggestions and contributions can be made by members who speak Tamil. Comments and suggestions are welcomed for incorporation into the final draft. (2) This type of Group is obviously only for devotees who are prepared to put some serious work in; and conversely for those have have done much work and are prepared to share the fruits of their knowledge with others. Equally, everyone is encouraged to contribute and also to learn.
