Om Namo Bhagavathe Sri Ramanaaya

Dear Alan

Thanks very much for posting these wonderful verses from our

Muruganar. However I have one doubt.

Regarding:

<<57) This dire, delusory world of emptiness, extending itself in

various

forms, will

I am no expert on peacock eggs, but felt that the "variegated hues"

would refer to the bird rather than the egg. I have checked out the

translations of Prof K Swaminthan and Sri Michael James, both of

which support this first instinct.

Swaminathan writes:

57. "The void world, variegated, vast

Sprang from one sole, eternal Bliss,

As from one egg the multi-coloured

Peacock. See this Truth abiding

As the Self alone."

In David Godman's website, Michael James writes:

57. "This empty world, bewildering with multiplicity, is, in its

original state, unbroken uniform

Bliss, just as the multi-coloured peacock is, in its original state,

the single-coloured yellow egg-yolk.

Abide as Self and know this truth."

I'm also forwarding this post to a colleague who is better verses in

these things than me.
