Some Notes on focussed Ramana Studies

Greetings.

2004 has seen some interesting cyber activity for members who want to deepen

their understanding of Sri Bhagavan's written works.

As is known, the Ramana Gita, presented by Alan, has run on this list, beginning

in the Winter and finishing this Summer. This has sparked off an interest in

presenting The Maharshi's works in their original Tamil (or Sanskrit), and

matching the phrases up to form a "parallel text", along with notes on how

Bhagavan uses Tamil. This is particularly appropriate for showing practitioners

of Atma Vichara some of the ways the Master himself uses language to lead the

devotee into this practise. Many devotees' individual questions have been

answered, often in a startling way.

Here are two smaller, quieter lists in the directory which are open for the sincere sadhaka:

The_Sage_of_Arunachala is a list where many members find that their burning

questions are answered, via the use of apposite quotations by the list owner,

speaking to the seeker in a direct and yet discrete manner. It is a list which

is a Virtual SatSangh, and members treat it with the same respect as though

they were in the presence of Sri Ramana Himself —which of course they are!

Recently a verse-by-verse match-up of Bhagavan's Upadesa Undiyar (the Tamil

version of the more widely-known Upadesa Saaram) was presented and completed on

this list. Since that a time another member has commenced a 'walk-through' of

Bhagavan's Aksharamanamaalai, "The Marital Garland of Letters", in the original

Tamil, which is presented in the original Tamil script (it needs a simple

program to be downloaded to be able to read it), and also in the Roman letters

of the alphabet for those who do not read the Tamil letters. Matching English

equivalent phrases along with Notes by Sri Sadhu Om are also provided. The

series is running now.

The_Deep_Forty has given similar treatment to Sri Ramana's Forty Verses on

Reality. This is now completed, and the posts are being kept as archives for

reference purposes. The phrases were supplied by Robert Butler, who is known

for his various translations of Bhagavan's works from the original Tamil, which

have appeared in the Mountain Path journal, and elsewhere . He has also made

major contributions to the new work by Muruganar called Padamalai. This is

edited by David Godman and has been launched as announcements on the lists

within the past week.

More of Sri Ramana's works are now in preparation for The_Deep_Forty, which is a

restricted access list; however if anyone mentions that they are from this list

they will, upon verification, have automatic acceptance of their application.
