The sun shines on the water. When the surface of the water breaks into ripples,we see numerous little suns on the water. The individual souls are like the reflections of the sun in the water. If there be no water, there are no reflected images. In the same way, the individual souls are the reflections of the supreme being on the ocean of Maaya and they become one with the supreme on the removal of that maaya. Do they become one? For one to become one with one, two must exist. Rather, in the Source, the Self, Lalitha, Malwani, or whatever term is used, in which prevailed the "feeling of discrete many", that illusion ends. That very ending as illusory, as was the illusion, which ended. It is like waking up from a last night dream. Not only the "good" and "bad", along with the projected concepts of Source, Self, Maaya, making up the drama of the last night dream, (which had got you all bothered, such that you wished to end thoughts or some such stuff), not only the drama in its entirety, is seen to be illusory, even that you had ever dreamt that dream, even that is seen to be an illusion. And that is why none of the dreamt up characters, ever sits beside you or resides in your heart, when you awaken in the morning. There is none to become one with anynone. For no un-becoming ever took place, for a becoming to ever be possible. Maaya is therefore created by our mind. No. That there is a "our mind" or "my mind" as a discrete separated entity or self, is a product of Maaya. That is why we need to give up our thoughts. :-) The need to give thought, is a thought. That we have failed to give up thought, is a thought. That we have succeeded in giving up thoughts, is a thought. .. The more we think the more we feed the mind to be real. More thoughts or less thoughts is still in the realm of thoughts. Thoughts cannot be thought out. That is why the great Ramana, did not say to end thoughts, for that is an oxymoron. He invited the ascertaining, to whom does thought exist? To whom, is this thought occuring, that thought has now happened? Lalitha in her play had already done the thinking and knows how exactly we are going to do and live. Right. In which case who is to give up what? Who is live what? There is just Lalitha, playing out all the roles, at all times, simultaneously. This is the reason why Ramana encourages us to know our true 'I'.We need to feel the presence of our self. That-which-is, is neither a presence nor an absence. It cannot be experienced, understood, realized, attained, reached, for there is none apart, none separate to it, to experience it, to understand it, to realize it. One way of overcoming Maaya is to know and follow your mothers Love for her child that is always unique and cherished. That love can take us to the source of 'I'.Ramana himself cherished his mothers Love. The love that Ramana eluded is not a relational emotion. Whether that for a mother, for a child, or for a bottle of dark Rum. In love, you do not love an other. You are the other. Guest guest
Dear Avril, I would respectfully ask you to actually read Sri Ramana’s works and talks with the great sage. Sri Ramana’s highest teaching is given in Silence. People express their understanding in different ways according to their background and experience. Bhagavan has said that Sages express themselves differently but the Self is the same. All these notions of mind, no mind, mayya, no-notion etc., is only mental chatter. The more seriously one takes one’s mental chatter, the more one is caught up. The Chatter-free state is always there in the background. If we see that we can relax. Bless you brother and may you be in peace and may you take the time to study Bhagavan’s teachings sincerely. Relax and enjoy.
