Dreaming we are asleep

Dear Alan,

Namaste! Thank you for this quote;

it is one of my favourite quotes from Bhagavan. I

share this a lot with persons who ask me questions

from many different perspectives~those who are

following an interfaith sadhana in many different

ways.

Bhagavan tells us that if we know we are asleep, there

is a much better chance that we will recognize when we

are awake! I just had an experience like this: I was

dreaming that I was a mountain goat, climbing up the

steep mountainside, in order to get to some tasty

shrubs. I was about to leap over a chasm, when my

awareness suddenly interrupted my dream saying, "you

are in a human body; you are dreaming that you are a

mountain goat; you are about to leap over a chasm! You

may fall out of bed! Wake up!" Because I could know

then that I was asleep, I did wake up, and saved

myself from falling. It was a vivid experience and as

I contemplated its meaning, Bhagavan's teaching about

the mad man who knows he is mad, not really being mad,

came to mind once again.

When we know the "sleep" of the ego consciousness, we

can begin to understand Who it is that seems to be

asleep in this way: are we really asleep, or are we

only dreaming that we are asleep? Bhagavan tells us

that the waking state is really a dream state also; we

dream the ignorance that seems to obscure the true

Self. To find this out, we have to do as Bhagavan

says, and first find out that we are asleep!

With you in Bhagavan's loving Presence,

Sister Judith,

--Dear Sister Judith,

Thank you for your wise comment which throws greater light on this quotation

from 'Conscious

Immortality" . I shall not be able to post any more from this book for a while

as i shall be

travelling to Arunachala on Sunday .

With every best wish ,

Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya.

Glad to know about your trip to arunachala . I wish you a happy jouney and

peaceful moments at Aashram.

I always cherish your kind advise and explanations of Bhagawan's teachings

during friday chatroom discussions. I am always thankful to you , Mr.Miles and

others for the guidances. I used to feel as if i am getting it directly from

Bhagawan.

Please do share with us about your inner experiances at Arunachala after your return.

With warm regards
