'whoami 2014' .: I read in the e-mail about Muruganar's advice about plunging

into Self-Enquiry......... What is your view if I say that I am waiting for the

right time to do that.

 

Narayan Rao Shinde .: May I say ' here and now ' , for self enquiry no time should be lost.

 

Gabriele .: I don't know ......... yes - here and now.

 

Mr.Miles .: Who is waiting ? The right time is now. Do not be fooled by those

who say there is a right time in the future according to fate etc., Fate has

nothing to do with it ...... that pertains to body / mind alone.

 

N.R.S .: ' Subhassya Sheegrham ' , first step should be taken immediately the

journey is long though.

 

Mr.Miles .: if you believe you are bold ........ if you believe you are body /

mind alone why bother with such things ...... the impetus comes from else

where.

 

N.R.S .: Yes , but from within repeat within not elsewhere.

 

Mr.Miles.: Why only within ? For one locked in the body / mind complex without is useful too.

 

whoami .: there are commitments that one should follow thru

 

N.R.S .: because He exists within. ' Aatmaney atmanahsya ' ............. Outside

sources are only motivators, promoters, catalyst, but the within is the anvil.

 

Mr.Miles.: 'Sabdam AyAvrto naiva tamasAyAti pushkare , bhinne tamasi

caikatvaneka evAnupaSyati'.

While disguised in the form of words, through ignorance, one does not reach the

Heart-Lotus, but .... when such ignorance is rent asunder One discovers that

identity alone within / without are of no concern to one who takes to

Self-enquiry ......except as fuel for vichara.

 

N.R.S .: How is " such ignorance is is rent asunder " only by search within is my humble opinion.

 

Mr.Miles .: the search within is every bit the red herringg as the search without.

 

whoami .: I agree with what has been said ....... but

 

Mr.Miles .: We use these words only for convenience ...... to argue about them misses the point.

 

N.R.S .: Victory over vichara is the key, Vritti and their vichars are the trouble makers.

 

Mr.Miles .: Indeed vichara is the key. If the search remains mere hollow words

and concepts there is no search.

 

whoami .: don't you experiance the quiteness when you go deep into Self-enquiry.

 

N.R.S .: ya ... the quietness is result of journey within. Without will always enruffle you.

 

whoami .: I find it very disturbing to come out of that to carry on with daily life.

 

Mr.Miles .: Within / without - without / within - why such disignations

...... even that which you look out on is in the mind alone.

 

whoami .: hence my time frame to go all the way in a later stage.

 

N.R.S .: that is be only ' saakshi ' witness let them not sponge you.

out is mind only maaya .... in is who I am.

 

Gabriele .: within - without - what I understand is the same as both is dependent on I.

 

Mr.Miles .: The one who would look out or in is the one who causes mischief.

This ' looker ' is the one to Enquire into.

 

Gabriele .: this is ego, who is looking.

 

N.R.S .: Can one reach 'I' wandering out.

 

Mr.Miles .: Indeed ........ To reach "I" Search and find 'I'

The 'I' who does the looking is the 'I' to be enquired into ....... All else is mere polemics.

 

N.R.S .: we are all saashakas, we contribute not contest, cooperate not compete,

every interface every moment we should move nearer to 'understanding that'

polemics has been the bane of Sanathana dharma in 12 to 16th centuries until

Sankara put an end to it. Vaad polemics is the lawyers weapon their swabhava.

 

rajba.rm .: If I may ask, does prarabdha karma determines every action (even

mundane) in the present life or is it more relevant to conditioning of the mind

and not actions necessarily ?

 

Gabriele .: I find it a bit confusing with the karma - view .... but what seems

me correct is that there is a certain store we have to go through, but that

with vichara what is meant with "karma" stops.

 

Mr.Miles .: prarabdha is simply that part of one's karma which is to be worked out in this life.

it really is of no concern to one who takes to vichara

identifying with the actions is the problem - vichara is the solution.

Bhagavan said, " All the activities that the body is to go through are

determined when it first comes into existance. It does not rest with you to

accept or reject them. The only freedom you have is turn your mind inward and

renounce activities there"

 

rajba.rm .: Thanks nanyar .. That explains it. I think the key is that the

activities of the body are determined but the mind is free to be introverted if

one chooses.

 

Gabriele .: in Christianity it is said that a strong belief can change lots-even

shift a mountain to another place.

 

Mr.Miles .: I should add in light of previous conversation today, that turning

inward is stopping the travelling, attaching mind. The mind that travels in is

every bit as problematic as the mind that travels out.

 

Gabriele .: how is this to be understood.

 

I lost contact with chat room and was not able to record further discussions, if

anybody else has recorded ..... pls update.

There will be some errors in the manuscript and I request the participants to

send a necessary correction message.
