Guest guest
D.: Is there no dehatma buddhi (I-am-the-body idea) for the jnani? If, for instance, Sri Bhagavan be bitten by an insect, is there no sensation? M.: There is the sensation and there is also the dehatma buddhi. The latter is common to both jnani and ajnani with this difference, that the ajnani thinks dehaiva Atma (only the body is myself), whereas the jnani knows all is of the Self (Atmamayam sarvam) or (sarvam khalvidam Brahma) all this is Brahma. If there be pain let it be. It is also part of the Self. The Self is poorna (perfect). (extract from Talks no. 383, posted yesterday) In Forty Verses on Reality, Sri Ramana explains this point further... 17 (22) The body is the Self, both to him that does not know the Self and to him that knows. The one that knows believes himself to be limited to the body and distinct from God and All. To the knower of the Real Self within, He shines as the infinite Being, not other than God. Great indeed is the difference between the knower of the Self and the non-knower! (from Revelation, Sri Lakshman Sarma)

Guest guest
Om Namo Bhagavathe Sri Ramanaaya Thanks for this, Peter. Unfortunately, Lakshmana Sarma’s words have not been correctly typed here, and the meaning has therefore become non-sensical. It is important to see the negative here! Here it is, with corrections in red: The body is the Self, both to him that does not know the Self andto him that knows. The one that knows not believes himself to be limited to thebody and distinct from God the All. To the knower of the Real Self within,He shines as the infinite Being, not other than God. Great indeed is thedifference between the knower of the Self and the non-knower! A misleading post was made a couple of weeks back to another verse in ulladu narpadu, (verse 8) in that the context of the venba with reference to what Bhagavan was saying was quite misunderstood. I shall post this when I get round to it. Many thanks to the member who spotted the error and wrote in about it. anbudan John Siva—Siva - Peter M.
