Guest guest
Dear Giovanni Why a vow? Who takes the vow? Are you not living in the future (by deciding for the future) when you take a vow? Sachin
Guest guest
Dear Giovani, I wonder if we need to distinguish between 'Silence' and the act of restraining speech. Restraining speech may be an aid to meditation if it helps to curb the mind's extraverted activity. Perhaps for many of us the endless chatter of thought may carry on in the mind just the same as before, even though the lips be sealed. Could we say that true 'Silence' seems to be something that 'comes upon us', as it were; it is not something that can be achieved, or made to happen, by the ego. What do you think? Peter RamanaMaharshi [RamanaMaharshi] On Behalf Of Giovanni Kakugen 31 July 2005 18:11 Atma Vichara; RamanaMaharshi [RamanaMaharshi] Question about sattvic habits Dear members and devotees, <snip> Sometimes I feel like doing a vow of silence, put Sri Ramana expressely discouraged such a thing. Also I`ve taken a vow of brahmacharya because I felt ready for it and it was quite natural, altough Sri Raman never advised that. My question is: am I going "agains" Bhagavan`s teachings when doing this? Or can I trust that anything that helps me develop a sattiv mind is in accordance with His teachings and would be approved by Him? Of course, my goal is also to make easier to practice self-enquiry, and to be able to stay more in the Self once I reach it through a set meditation. Forgive my poor english and my begginer`s questions. Yours in Bhagavan, Giovanni
