Guest guest
THUS SPAKE RAMANA - 112 The ego functions as the knot between the Self which is Pure Consciousness and the physical body which is inert and insentient. The ego is therefore called the chit-jada granthi. In your investigation into the Source of aham vritti, you take the essential chit aspect of the ego; and for this reason the enquiry must lead to the Realisation of Pure Consciousness of the Self. Guest guest
Hi Rose, Chit-jada granthi = the knot between the sensiente (chit, consciousness) and the inert (jada, the body); Aham vritti = I-thought, the ego; Chit = consciousness. Guest guest
Hello Rose, "chit-jada granthi" is the knot between Pure Consciousness and the insentient body. This knot is the mind, or ego. In Ramana's work, Forty Verses on Reality (or Ulladhu Narpadhu) we find this referred to in verse 24: "The insentient body does not say 'I'. Existence-consciousness (sat-chit, the real Self) does not rise (or subside). (But) in between (the body and the real Self) an 'I' rises as the measure of the body. Know that this ('I am the body'-consciousness) is the knot between consciousness and the insentient (chit-jada-granthi), bondage (bandha), the individual soul (jiva), subtle body (sukshma sarira), ego (ahanta), this mundane state of activity (samsara) and mind (manas)." (translation by Sri Sadhu Om) Aham-vritti is the "'I' thought", in the sense of an 'I' identified with the body. "chit" is consciousness... which may be Pure Consciousness (as the Self) or reflected / modified consciousness (as the ego, aham-vritti) You might find it useful to visit Sri Ramanasramam web site where a number of books (eg Talks with Ramana) can be downloaded free. Go to: http://www.ramana-maharshi.org/ and look for the link to the downloads page. Best wishes, Peter =============================== Hello, All. I am new to the list.
