Guest guest
Rahul, the Supplement to the Forty Verses is of course available in the Collected Works, which is a free download from Sri Ramanasramam. I don't know of any other translation really. A "working translation" is under preparation. By that, I mean a model where the devotee has the opportunity to "see" the vocabulary, and a full explanation of how the translation was reached. It is not ready yet, as some of the Verses continue to mystify. One of the Verses has a story attached to it which has touched me. The devotee who worked very closely with Sri Bhagavan wrote under the name of "WHO", who was indeed Sri Lakshmana Sarma. He liked to translate Sri Ramana's Tamil into Sanskrit, and he also composed Sanskrit Verses himself. His commentary on "Ulladu Narpadu" was written with close collaboration with Sri Bhagavan, who showed him how the Tamil venba worked. In this story, however, "WHO" did not translate one Verse into Tamil: rather it was the other way around! Ramana decided to translate it into Tamil, and this is what became Verse 11 of the Supplement. So the original is written by WHO!Our Miles has made a translation of the original (undoubtedly inspired by Ramana) into English which is displayed here. The Tamil is really lovely with plenty of deep sub-tones, and it will be posted when it is ready along with the other Verses of the Supplement. It must have been quite an honour to have Bhagavan translate a 'modern' Sanskrit composition into Tamil! Here is his translation of the Sanskrit into English: lebhe janiM yaH parame svamUlevicArya kasmAdahamityudAraH |sa eva jAtaH sa ca nityajAtonavo navo 'yaM satataM munIndraH ||"That noble one who, by means of the enquiry 'Whence am I?', has attained birth in the supreme source of his being (the Self), He alone is born. In truth, He is constantly born. That Lord of Sages is ever new."(Lakshmana Sarma's Sanskrit verse 57 of Revelation; translated by M. Wright) RamanaMaharshi, Ananda <oneness.univ wrote:>> > .....Verses 2 & 3 from the Supplement to the Forty Verses.> > John,> thanks so much for the beautiful replies.
