Enquiry "Who Am I?", japa, and self surrender are the chief means taught by Bhagawan. I have, on the way, understood that all relationships and happenings that please you or torment you are desgined by Niyati, God's power, as invititation to join God. It is a continuos exhortation, but most ignore it or do not know it. Knowing the love of God, the world becomes love. Ofcourse when you asked "how to survive in this world?", Maharshi would have asked you "Whose survival you are concerbned about?" Thus it follows that every situation in front of you is of your own making, and is intended to wake you up. That is why we must learn from the situations which confront us - they are there in the first place because of our own actions in the past. This "world" which you mention, is "your" world, it is nobody elses. The world which you think is general and the same to everyone is in fact not so. Everyone sees the world differently. We are constantly projecting our own thoughts and desires, and this becomes our world. Thus, every situation in front of you is perfect for your own spiritual development, and dealing with it will ultimately bring you to realisation. Bhagwan is simply saying wake up from all this "my world", and come into the presence of your own self. The tools Bhagwan gives are for this purpose only. Krishna.
