YATHEENDRA MAHADESIKAYA NAMA:

Dear Sri Bhaghavthothamas,

Adien anantha dhandavath pranamas to all.

It is really wonderful to read the articles in the electronic journal

Viz.SRIRANGASRI.we are really indebted to Sri U.VE. Anbil Ramaswamy Swamy

for his kainkaryam to our great Sathsampradhayam in propagating the tenets

of SriVishistadhvaitha philosophy as espoused by the Great Acharyas from Sri

Natahamunigal onwards and upto present Acharyapurushas.

It will be quite appropriate to mention that in addition to the the Great

Azhvars and Acharyas who did avtharams in the holy month of Karthikai as

mentioned in the postings in the Acharya Vamsa Vriksha section,to include

the name of the Great Acharyapurusha Sri Kotikanyakadhanam

Sri Laksmikumara Thathadesikan whose thirunakshathram falls on Karthikai

Anusham(26-11-2000),i.e. today. The Thirunakshathram is being celebrated at

Kanchi with great pomp and fervour. It will be befitting to give our learned

readers some excerpts from an interesting article to commemmerate the above

event, published in The Hindu dated 24-11-2000, by Sri R.Varadarajan.

One of the luminaries in the lineage of Nathamuni was Panchamata BAnjanam

Tathadesikan who lived in the fifteenth century A.D.He was initiated into

Sri Bhashyam by his maternal uncle Shashta Parankusa Swamy of the Ahobhila

Math. His adopted son was Sri Lakshmi Kumara Thathadesikan. He was born at

Kumbakonam in the Tamil year Prajotpathi,in the month of Karthikai,Anusha

nakshathram in 1575 A.D.

At the time of his birth he was presumed to be a still born baby as he did

not cry and show any signs of body movements.A matronly woman of resplendent

portliness appeared in a flash, took over the baby, embraced it on her bosom

and left the child on a piece of cloth torn from her saree assuring the

perplexed parents that the child henceforth would live a full life of fame

and fortune. In the Komalavalli Thayar shrine, the saree adorned by the deity

was found torn to match the piece of cloth wrapped around the

baby.Realisation dawned on the parents that the lady of Divine beauty who

gave life to their child was none other than Komalavalli Thayar.Likewise

Perundevi Thayar at the Kanchipuram temple cured the child of his fever and

delirium on the first birthday ceremony.

Tirumalai Srinivasacharya in the fifth generation of Tatacharyas was

installed by Sri Vedanta Desika as Sri Karyam of the Sri Devaraja Swamy

Kovil.Sri Lakshmi Kumara Thathadesikan inherited this mantle from his

ancestors and made epoch making contributions to the temple annals. He was

the Sri Karya Durandhara - a phrase connoting absolute dedication and

authority-of temple affairs.He composed a hymn"Hanumath Vimsathi",authored

"Lakshmi Niyudam","Panchagranthi Nipaharam",Desika prabhanda Yeedu","Nigama

Parimala Arumpadam" in a devotional fervour. He also brought out a

philosophical work called Satvika Brahmana Vidya Vilasa Parijata Apaharana,

a sanskrit play in five acts,is attributed to him in the temple archives.

He is deified with his consort Ammangar in Vedhantha Desika's Sannadhi with

in the precincts of the Perumal Kovil. Thathadesikan's life in its entierety

symbolised the noble qualities of a Srivaishnava as pronounced by Ramanuja.

Adien seek the pardon of the Bhagahavathas for sending this long posting

which was only due to the urge to share the joy of being in one among the

great lineage of such Great Acharya purushas like Sri Lakshmikumara

Thathadesikan Swamy.

Koti Kanyakadana Sri Laksmi Kumara Thathayarya Mahadesikaya Namaha

If there is any discrepancy in the above posting it is purely due to

adien's,the seelamilla siriyon.

Adien Ramnuja Dasan
