Dear Bhagavathaas,

Please pardon AdiyEn for this long posting.

Our beloved Acharya his Godliness Sri Poundareekapuram Srimad Andavan Asramam,

Srimad GopAla DesikA MahA DEsikan Swami, will be completing 80 years and

commemmorating his 81st TN, there would be a grand celebration in Srirangam

throughout March 2001, amidst the presence of Sri Vaishnava Acharyas, Scholars

and Bhaagavathaas. This millenium is indeed blessed with this rare event, of

celebrating an 'Outstanding Sri Vaishnava Acharya's Thiru Nakshathram' amidst

outstanding Sri Vaishnava Acharyas, Vidwans and BhAgavathaas.

 

After a brief search, AdiyOm took refuge under his Godlinesses feet only in Sep

1999, after realizing,

-- 'this great Acharya is our saviour for us to attain eternal happiness'

-- 'Divya Dhampathis Kalyaana Gunas are personified in this Maha Purushar that

he should be NadamAdum Deivam'

-- 'Dhidha Gathra VairAghyam of this Acharya can definitely correct AdiyOm'

-- 'Parama KaarunikA Swabhaavam can always keep us under his protection'

-- 'Vishaya Jnanam and deliverance simplified for ignorant masses can benefit

AdiyOm',

&

-- 'Swami is very very soft in his thoughts, words and action, and thinks global

welfare above his ThirumEni Paangu, Asramam etc. He truly upholds the

Thridandham for the Sri Vaishnava Universe. He is our Acharya'.

 

This Acharya has a magnetic personality even if one sees Swami in

picture/person. Like Swami Desikan, in 'Sri YathirAja Sapthathi' proclaiming

Sri Ramanujar's feet are holier than that of the very Divya Dhampathis, one

could relate similarly our Acharyas feet. Sri Ramanujar saved Vedas from

mis-interpretation & slander, thus saving even the Lord by making him easier for

his dear Jeevas to attain him, thus making his feet holier than that of the

Lord. In those times many knew the Vedas, SAstras and accepting Sri Ramanuja's

message would have been a shade easier. Given our material pursuits, ignorance,

little or no trace of SAstras in our daily life, our Acharya is indeed the

Udaiyavar of our times, saving even the Lord of the pains of seeing his

Jeevathmaas in distress.

 

AdiyEn would take your permission to narrate a simple incident which took place

a few weeks back in Srirangam, our Swamy was telling Sri Madhavakkannan's father

"nAmba oru vIdu or maNdapam yedutthu, thaLigai paNRavAl

vaikkaNum; murali, kaNNan, Sudharsan ellAm varuvAL", when AdiyEn heard about

this, there were tears in AdiyEn's eyes how could our Acharya be so

compassionate to compare this worthless soul & Abaraatha Chakravarthy, with that

of long time associates of the Asramam and Parama Bhagavathaas like

Sri.Muralidhar Rangaswamy or our own Sri.Madhavakkannan. This verily displays

our Acharya's SwabhAvam(an outstanding teacher regards his good and bad students

equally)

 

A few months back our Acharya was joking, when AdiyEn's wife made a VignyApanam

on the Thaligai for the NAMA event at AdiyEn's griham, Swamin laughed and

asked"Appo Bakshanam enakku anupariyaa?", AdiyOm were literally feeling we

should get the Bhagyam to serve our Acharya at the Asramam, and felt like crying

to have left him alone at Sri Rangam.

 

Also when AdiyEn was commanded by our Acharya to perform SEthu SnAnam, before

Samasrayanam and Bhaara Nyaasam, the return trip was delayed. Our Swami with

utmost compassion feared our safety since accidents are common on State

highways, and continued to bless us, even before his Thiruvadi Summandham. When

we arrived Swami, passionately enquired and gave us Thiruvadi Summandham to

Swami/Divya Dhampathis alike.

 

Our Acharya undertakes enormous efforts to get the works of Sri Vaishnava

scholars/Acharyas in print, words and action, and observes the TN of not only

our Poorvacharyas in our Asramam, but in addition great Acharyas of our Sri

Vaishnava Acharya Vriksham, eg U.Ve.Sri Maduranthakam Swamy Centenary

Celebrations in 1999, Swamin brought together distinguished scholars and

published rare Granthaas of this Maha Vidwan & Acharya. Same with works of

U.Ve.Sri Raama Desikachariar Swamy. It is a great treat to hear our Swami speak

on "YathirAja Sapthathi", "Sri. GopAla Vimsathi", "Sri PaadhukA Sahasram".....in

addition to other works of Poorvacharyas.

 

AdiyEn am limited by knowledge, words, memory and innumerable weaknesses to

write more about this great Sri Vaishnava Acharya of our times, and repay in

gratitude to our Acharya/Divya Dhampathis alike is impossible. AdiyEn would

request all Bhagavathaas immaterial of their race, sex, Kalai, Acharya Parampara

to participate in this rare event and get the blessings of this MahA Purushar.
