Guest guest
Dear Ramesh, There are 3 important temples of Sri Ranganatha perumAL. As the river Kaveri flows, she keeps forking her flow making 3 islands, and each of the islands has a ranganatha perumALtemple. Starting from Shivana samudra (Bluf) being Adi ranga, the Lord here has a baby face, he looks much younger than the other two thirumurnthy and Srirangapatana being madhya ranga and finally she flows to Srirangam in TN again making another island (antha ranga.) members who are better informed requested to clarify. I think the Temple at Srirangapatana was much earlier to Tipu. To give credit to where credit is due, the temple of Lord Sriranganatha is said to have been built by the Chieftain Thirumalaiah in 894 AD. Tippu’s period was in 18th century. I will try to get more info. on Srirangapatna. Hari Hari
Guest guest
Dear Srivatsa, I think it's not Shivana Samudra rather it is SriVana (thulasi forest)Samudra. Please correct me if i am wrong. Guest guest
Dear Srinivasan, You must be right. Initially it might havehad its name as "SriVana" Samudra. "Shivana" must be an apabhramsha of "SriVana". However currently it is known as Shivana Samudra dAsan Srivatsa
Guest guest
Dear Sirs, Please forgive my most ignorant posting to the learned Bhagavatas of this e-mail group. Even though there are quite a few Temples for Lord Sri Ranganatha at various places like, Srirangam in Tamilnadu, Srirangapattanam in Karnataka, Nellore in Andhra Pradesh and Pomona in New York-USA, it is ONLY at Srirangam, Tamilnadu that the Divya Mangala Vigraha is NOT man-made. This Divya Mangala Vigraha of Lord Sri Ranganatha at Srirangam, Tamilnadu was gifted by Lord Sriman Narayana Himself to Brahma, from Brahma to Ikshvaku, and worshipped by all the kings in the Raghuvamsa lineage upto Lord Rama, and from Lord Rama to Vibhishana, and en-route to Sri-Lanka, Lord Sri Ranganatha wanted to have his abode at Srirangam, Tamilnadu. So this Srirangam Ranganatha is the exact replica of Sriman Narayana of Sri Vaikuntham. Rest of the places had the vigraha Pratishta done by Maharshis or devotees. That is the reason why, Lord Sri Ranganatha communicated with Bhagavad Ramanuja " yAvat SarirapAtam atraiva Srirange sukhamAsva" (SaranAgati Gadya). In this respect, Srirangam of Tamilnadu is unique.
