Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:

We are having wonderful Margazhi celebration with Thiruppavai recitationn in Sri

Lakshmi Temple,

Ashland, Ma. In spite of the hours, everyday from 5.00 AM to 6.30 AM, many

Bhagavathas are

participating in this event. The Vaikunda Ekadasai was attended (same time to

accomodate people

to go to work on that day) well over 100 people. For the past few years, we

have been conducting

various functions including, Teppotsavam, Bhrahmotsavam, Pavitrotsavam, Kannadi

Arai Sevai (Mirror

room with infinite relections of the Divine Couple), Samudra Snanam etc.. as

well as all the

Acharya / Azhwar Tirunakshthrams. In the same spirit, we are planning for a

grand event, Thayar

Adhyayana utsavam with Tiruppavai Maalai samarpanam and Nooru Thada Niraintha

Akkara Vadisal

samarpanam. It will be our bagyam to have great Bhagavathas of this group

participate in the

celebration. Please inform one and all so that everyone get the grace of Sri

Lakshmi Sametha

Srinivsa Perumal. I am attaching the detailed announcement below:

Thaayar Adhyayana Utsavam will start on Jan 11 2002

and end on Jan 20 2002 at Sri Lakshmi Temple , Ashland

days and the "Periya Saathumurai" will be done on

January 20,2002. The program will start every day at

7:00 PM and end at 8:30 PM.

On January 20, Sri Venkateshwara will be adorning a

"Thiruppaavai Maalai". The "Thiruppavai Maalai" had

been adorned by SriVilliputhur "Andal" prior to its

arrival in Boston. This Thiruppavai Maalai Samarpanam

will happen at 10 AM on January 20.

As per the the "Nachiyaar Thirumozhi" Paasuram :

Dear Sir,

I am very glad to note that the Srivaishanavites and other people in a

foreign land are very much interested in performing all rituals /festivals

connected to Sri Vaishnava Order, with deep sense of commitment and

devotion. May the Divine couple Sri Hari bless you all and your

undertakings.

On the other hand, I am very sorry to say that the glorious vaishnava

tradition is slowly fading out in southern parts of the country. Most of

the Divyadesams have no maintenance. Brahmins have become Vaishyas, and

Vaishyas have become sudras. And sudras and panchamas have become rulers of

the land. There has been a tremendous cinematic influence on the brahmin

fold and other sections of the Society.

Is there anyone to think on these lines and guide the people. We too have

great acharyas in our own times. There is a need for revival of vaishnava

thought in the minds of youngsters. What steps have been taken to restore

the Great Order?. Acharyas and brahmins in Madras are scared of doing

anything openly.

In order to keep our tradition alive, I strongly feel that there is a need

for compilation of a book consisting of day to day rituals

(nithyaunsanthanam), various practices, and traditions of Brahmin with

special reference to Sri Vaishnavas. One should know what are the basic

differences between brahmins and other sections; and inturn between

smarthas, vaishnavites and madhavas; the reasons therefor.

This is the age of science & technology. There is also a need for

interpretation of vishistadvaita in terms of modern science & technology. I

feel that our vedic texts have strong scientific base.

We need a person like Dr. Krishnan. Dr Krishnan was not only a noted

scientist but also an exponent of vaishnava philosophy.

I would request the Acharyas to take a lead and guide the people in a proper

direction.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

R.Parthiban

I think that we need to distinguish devotion from casteism. While it may be true

that there is a decline in the moral and social values in Tamilnadu, it is

perhaps true for the rest of the country, and may be even the world. I believe

that our resources should be directed more towards development efforts that

encourage social and economic equality. As followers of Ramanuja, it is amazing

that the practioners of his philosophy are advocating a practice that the great

Aacharya had himself discouraged.
