On this day dear to Sri RanganAyaki ThAyAr ,

adiyEn would like to start a special series on

Swamy Desikan's "DhramidOpanishad Saaram " .

 

Swamy Desikan's genius in intrepreting the deeper

meanings of Swamy NammAzhwAr's ThiruvAimozhi and

the other dhivya prabhandhams of the other AzhwArs

is unparalleled. He blessed us with two major works

in Sanskrit on ThiruvAimozhi , one on all of the dhivya

prabhandhams ( Nigama ParimaLam , which is no longer

available ), MunivAhana BhOgam ( on ThiruppANar's

AmalanAdhipirAn ) and Madhura Kavi Hrudhayam

( On KaNNInuNN SiRutthAmpu , which is also not

available anymore )and Prabhandha Saaram . In addition to

all of the above , our Swamy Desikan quoted profusely from AzhwAs'

Paasurams in his magnum opus ,Srimath RahasyaThraya Saaram .

 

The two Sanskrit works on ThiruvAimozhi are:

DhramidOpanishad Taathparya RathnAvaLi (DTR)and

DhramidOpanishad Saaram (DS) .

 

AdiyEn recently wrote the introduction to Swamy

Desikan's DhramidOpanishad Taathparya RathnAvaLi

and covered the first ten slOkams and the 123rd

SlOkam of DTR dealing with Swamy NammazhwAr's Moksham

( ThiruvAimozhi 10.10.1-10)in the context of

the Thiru Adhyayana Uthsavam at Sri RanganAtha

Temple , Pomona , NY.

 

In this series , adiyEn will focus on DhramidOpanishad

Saaram (DS) , which is a anubhandham to DTR. Latter is

an elaborate analysis of the individual paasurams ,

the GuNams of the Lord celebrated there , the MahA

GuNam of the Dasakam (decad ) and the higher level

GuNams encompasing the sathakams and the entire ThiruvAimozhi

in that order. Swamy Desikan used 130 slOkams set in

the big Sragdhara Metre to accomplish this magnificent

task. In DS , in the short span of 26 slOkams (24 set in

SikariNi metre and the remaining two in Sragdhara metre) ,

Swamy Desikan blessed us with the GuNa NiroopaNams the ten

sathakams and the ten decads associated with each of the ten

sathakams ( One Hundreds) .Swamy Desikan's analytical

and syncretic skills are abundantly displayed in these

two sanskrit works dealing with ThiruvAimozhi . The two

Sri Sookthis have to be studied together since the quintessential

points made in the DS are elaborated in the corresponding

SlOkams of DTR .

 

adiyEn will be following the commentary of Abhinava Desikar ,

Vaikunta Vaasi Sri U.Ve.UtthamUr Swamy , whose anniversary is

falling on Thai SwAthi . This series is dedicated to the memory

of this great AchAryan, who opened the spiritual eyes of

many BhakthAs .
