Dear BhakthAs:

 

In the 125th SlOkam of DTR , Swamy Desikan summarized

the essence of the entire ThiruvAimozhi Prabhandham

this way:

 

iTTam sEvyam SubhOgyam shuba-subhaga-tanum SarvabhOgya-prakrushtam

SrEyastadh-hEthu-bhUtham prapadhana-sulabham svAsrithAnishta-jishNum

BhakthacchandhAnuvruttham nirupadhi-suhrudham sathpadhavyAm sahAyam

Srisam prAha svasiddhE: svayamiha karaNam svaprabhandhE SaThAri:

 

Here the essence of the entire ThiuvAimozhi (TVM) is

summarized in the Fourth quarter(Paadham ) of the above slOkam.

The key portion of the fourth paadham is : " SvasiddhE:

svayam-iha KaraNam " . Sri SaThAri Soori (Swamy NammazhwAr)

revealed in his TVM that the Lord is the Upaayam for

attaining Him ( Tannai peRa thAnE UpAyam ). Thus spoke

Swamy NammazhwAr ( SvaprabhandhE SaThAri: PrAha)according to

Swamy Desikan . In the first three paadhams of the above DTR

SlOkam , Swamy Desikan summed up the focus of each of

the ten sathakams (centads) of ThiruvAimozhi, which is

DhvyArtha-param ( full of the meaning of the sacred Dhvaya

mantram ) .

In the FIRST patthu ( One Hundred consisting of ten decads) ,

Swamy NammAzhwAr described the Lord as sEvyan (iTTam sEvyam),

eminently worthy of Worship . Avan sEvikka Takkavan yenRar.

This Patthu begins with " UyaRvaRa Uyar nalam udayavan--".

 

In the SECOND Patthu ("Vaayum--" Sathakam) , Swamy NammAzhwAr saluted

the Lord as "SubhOgyan" , one who is a delectable from the point of

view of enjoyment by His devotees ( SubhOgyan). The mangaLa sabdham of

"Su" is added to "BhOgyan" to emphasize that there is no parrallel

to the parama bhogyathvam of the Lord.

 

In the THIRD patthu (MudicchOthi), the SubhAsraya Dhivya MangaLa

vigraham of the Lord is saluted. Swamy Desikan sums up this

sathakam as dealing with the Lord having the MahA GuNam of

"Shubha-Subhagathatanu". SubhAsrayam and Dhivya mangaLa vigraham

are pointed out as the subject matter of this Patthu. SubhAsrayam

means the twin aspects of the Shubham (MangaLam ) and the Aasrayam

( experiencable by DhyAnam ) are recalled here about the ThirumEni

(Tanu) of the Lord.That is the Shubha Subhagath Tanu of Sriman

NaarAyaNan.

 

In the FOURTH Sathakam (Oru NaayakamAi--) , the unique aspect of

the Lord's BhOgyathvam is qualified further as " Sarva BhOgya

Prakrushtam " or superior to the limited bhOgams of Isvaryam

in this world (LeelA VibhUthi) and Kaivalyam ( AathmAvalOkanam ,

which is a Kevala or limited Sukham or BhOgam ).Kaivalyam is

a state of Moksham , where the AathmA exists in its true form

freed from bondages . It is nowhere equal to Saayuya Moksha BhOgam .

Here , the fourth Patthu identifies and salutes the Lord as

"Sarva BhOgya prakrushtan".

 

In the FIFTH Patthu (KaiyyAr Chakkaratthu Yenn KarumANikkamE),

Sriman NaarayANan is saluted as the reason behind the reasons for

all auspicious happenings : "SrEyas Tath hEthu BhUtham".

 

In the SIXTH Patthu ( Vaigal PoonkazhivAi--) , Swamy Desikan

points out that Swamy NammAzhwAr celebrated the " Prapadhana

Sulabham " aspects of the Lord . The Lord is easily accessible to

those , who have performed the anushtAnam of prapatthi .

 

In the SEVENTH Patthu ( Kangulum Pahalum--),the Lord is

celebrated by Swamy NammAzhwAr according to Swamy Desikan

as " SvAsritha-anishta-jishNu" (as the One, who removes

the inauspiciousness of all , who have sought His refuge).

 

In the EIGHTH Patthu( DevimArAvar ThirumahaL--), the Lord is

saluted as " BhakthacchandhAnuvrutthan " ( One who is

the Sonna VaNNam Seytha PerumAL). He is under the control of

His BhakthAs and runs after them.

 

In the NINTH Patthu ( KoNDa PeNDir MakkaL--) , Swamy Desikan

points out that Swamy NammAzhwAr celebrated the " Nirupadhi-

suhrudham " guNam of the Lord. He is avyAja-karuNA Moorthy

and as such He endears Himself to His BhakthAs without any

expectations in return.

 

In the TENTH Patthu ( TaaLatthAmarai MaNi Vayal ThirumOhUr),

Swamy NammazhwAr saluted the " SatpadhavyAm SahAyam " guNam

of the Lord according to Swamy Desikan. The Lord assists

the Muktha Jeevan to the end of ArchirAdhi Maargam , which

marks their arrival at His Supreme abode, Sri Vaikuntam.

 

In the 128th slOkam of DTR , Swamy Desikan instructed us

that Swamy NammAzhwAr blessed us with the essence of Sanskritic

VedAs with their angams (Saanga Vedams) in his vernacular Vedam of

ThiruvAimozhi ( Saaram vEdhyam svavEdE sakalam akaTayath

SaThAri:).

 

In the final slOkam of DTR , Swamy Desikan uses

the last two Paadhams to let us know that DTR is

very dear to the heart of Lord of Srirangam and

that he assembled the gems of GuNams from Swamy NammAzhwAr's

ThiruvAimozhi to construct the rathnAvaLi (gem necklace)

dealing with the Taathparyams of Sawmy NammAzhwAr's Sri Sookthi:

 

VedAnthAchAryaka-Sribahumatha-bahuvidh VenkatEsOddhrutEyam

ramyA TaathparyarathnAvaLi: anagaguNA ranjanI Rangabharthu:

 

Bhaumatha means one who is honored by all and Bahuvidh

means sarva Saasthraj~nar.Such a VedAnthAchAryan, VenkatEsa Kavi

has assembled the karna-ranjaka DTR , which fills the heart

of Lord RanganAthA with joy. The two titles of VedAnthAchAryan

and Sarva-Tanthra-Svatanthrar were conferred on Swamy Desikan

by the Dhivya Dampathis Themselves.

the dhivya Dampathis of his Sontha PerumAL for whom

our AchArya Saarvabhouman composed Sri SaraNAgathi DhIpikai.
