This is the fifth Volume in the series. ******************************************************* In 1963, Srimath Thembarai Andavan became very weak and emaciated due to strict ahAra niyamams and old age and wanted to nominate His successor to adorn the AchArya peetam. Sri Kannan swAmi who possessed ocean of knowledge, unassuming AchArya bhakthi, pleasant demeanor, rigorous observance of anushtAnams, and great administrative skills immediately came to his mind. This very thought made Srimath Andavan feel happy and His Holiness apprised Sri kannan swAmi about this. Kannan swAmi did not opine for or against it when He was told. Srimath Andavan took this as a positive signal and was optimistic that Sri Kannan swAmi would oblige. When swAmi was in chennai, Srimath Andavan’s decree kept on occurring to his mind and swAmi initially appeared to be reluctant taking up sanyAsam due to family circumstances. SwAmi was constantly thinking about it and His dilemma grew larger. One day after taking bath, swami came to get His “Thiruppariyattam” ( vEshti) which was hung in a metal dangler. This posture of swAmi (with a wet robe around his waist and a Dhandam in his hand) reminded His youngest son of Sri SankarAchAryA who had come to his school that day. His teacher had asked him to bring 4 Annas (25 paise) and so he asked his father the reason for the same. SwAmi told him that as sankarAchAryA was a sanyAsi, he was asked to bring money so that the school could buy fruits for Him. He also told his son that one day he would also become a sanyAsi. Young boy immediately asked his father in a concerned tone who would get him fruits for sankarAnthi if his father becomes a sanyAsi. Our swAmi replied that his older brothers would get him whatever he needed. It became clearly evident from this incident that swAmi was preparing himself for sanyAsam and accept Srimath Thembarai Andavan’s Niyamanam. ======================================================= (To be continued....next posting will cover Sri.Kannan swAmi taking up sanyAsam) Srimath Andavan Thiruvadi, dAsan, venkat Sreenivasan PS: A picture of SwAmi's rahasya traya sAra kAlakshEpa ghoshti (prior to taking up sanyAsam) taken in 1955 is attached with this.
