SrimathE ranga rAmAnuja mahA dEsikAyA namaha:

June 12th, 2002 (vaIkAsi -ArudrA) is the auspicious

thirunakshatram day of Prakrutham Srimath

Andavan(Srimushnam) of Srirangam Srimath Andavan

PeriAsramam. This is the 68th thirunakshtram of our

beloved AchAryan. Adiyen prays to the holy padukAs of

Srimath Srimushnam Andavan before attempting to sketch

a very brief life history of His Holiness,Srimath

Srimushnam Andavan -Sri Ranga rAmAnuja mahA dEsikan.

Let us all recite Srimath Srimushnam Andavan's thanian

on this holy occasion.

VEdhAntha lakshmana muneendra krupAtthabOdham

ThadpAdha yugmasaraseeruha brungha rAjam

Thraiyantha yugma kruthaboori parisramamtham

Sriranga lakshmana munim saranam prabhadyE

=======================================================

In the first part of series, the AchArya guru

parampara (pertaining to Srimath Andavan

periAsramam)is covered starting from prathamAchAryan

of our sampradAyam, i.e. perumal all the way upto

present AchAryan, Srimath Srimushnam Andavan.

The foremost and first AchArya of our siddhAnta is

Sriman NArAyanA. He gave the upadEsam to Goddess Sri

MahA Lakshmi who is the second AchArya in the lineage.

Sri Lakshmi pirAtti gave upadEsam to vishwaksEnar who

chose NammAzhwAr to continue the lineage at the start

of kaliyugA. Sriman Nathamani was given the upadEsam

by NammAzhwAr by yogic powers Between 160 AD and 580

AD(as there seems to differening opinions about Sriman

nAthamuni's period of existence) from where the

AchArya lineage continued through UyyakondAr,manakkAl

nambi,ALavandAr, peria nambi and Sri RAmAnujA.

Sri RAmAnujA became an exponent in all the granthAs he

learnt from his AchAryAs and spread Sri VishitAdvaita

philosophy and SriVaishnavam through the 9 granthAs he

wrote in Sanskrit.

Since both vada mozhi (Sanskrit) vEdA and Tamizh Mozhi

Divya prabhandhams enjoy equal importance in our

sampradAyam, Sri vaishnavam is also called as 'Ubhaya

VEdAntha SampradAyam'. Sri Vaishnavam serves as a Huge

Banyan Tree with so many branches filled with

leaves, flowers and fruits all around the globe.

Srimath Andavan PeriAsramam serves an important branch

of Srivaishnavam among several other important

branches such as parakAla mutt,Ahobila Mutt, Srimath

Poundarikapuram Asramam, Sri VAnamAmalai mutt etc., to

name a few.

Srimath Andavan is an institution in Himself not a

person but represents the illustrious galaxy of holy

Andavan Hierarchy, expounding the great sath

sampradhaya and the munithraya school of thought as

sanctified and perpetuated by Sri Vedhantha Desikan,

an avathar of Lord Venkatesa, Himself who it is more

than any one else that had brought out the

significance of Munithraya Sampradhaya of Sriman

NAthamuni, YAmuna Muni, and Srimad RAmAnuja Muni

carrying with his name bridhu ‘Munithraya SidhAntha

SthApanAchariyAnAm’.

After having Conquered those whose opposed his

philosophic exposition of Vishistadvaitha, tradition

has it that Sri Ramanuja received the benediction of

Lord Sri Hayagreeva through the medium of Saraswathi

Devi, himself embracing the life of an ascetic, Sri

Ramanuja traveled far and wide establishing the SVA

philosophy and principles.

He is responsible for 9 works in sanskrit such as

“Gadhya thrayam, Sri BAshyam, VEdhantha Sangriham,

Nithya grantham, Geetha Bashyam" to name a few. The

Munithereya Sampradhyam received even more accelerated

impetus and popularity from Sri Vedhantha Desika

himself, who in his monumental works such as Rahasya

Thraya SAram and Tatva Muktha KalApam had dwelt at

length about this school of thought. The traditions of

Srimath Andavan Aashramam have held aloft the banner

of this great sampradhaya and Sri Vishnava Philosophy.
