Srimath Srimushnam Andavan Thirunakshatram Celebrations - (Vaibhavams of AchAryAs of Srimath Andavan Asramam )- Part II

Dear Bhagavathas,

 

This is the second part of the series of postings in

connection with the 68th Thirunakshatram (VaikAsi -

ThiruvAdhirai) celebrations of Prakrutham Srirangam

Srimath Andavan(Srimushnam).

 

In this posting Adiyen would cover the salient details

of AchAryAs of Srimath Andavan PeriAsramam guru

paramapara (regarding details about their birth

date/place,Asrama SweekAram etc.)starting from Sri

Thirukudanthai DEsikan all the way down to Srimath

Mysore Andavan. We will look into details of

Prakrutham Srimath Srimushnam's lihe history in a

seperate mail that will follow this.

 

 

Sri Gopalarya Maha Desikan(Thirukkudanthai dEsikan) -

was born in the year 1700 (Purattasi-pooradam)in

Royampettai near Thiruvaiyaru to Sri Krishnasuri . He

belonged to AthrEya Gothram and is 15th descendant

of swamy Appullar(Swamy Desikan's maternal uncle and

AchAryA). He was the direct disciple of SAkshAth

Swamy.

Swami received religious instructions from his

father, SAkshAth swamy and PAdukA SEvaka RAmAnuja

Swamy (for Bhagavath Vishayam). His scholastic

distinction attracted a huge following of sishyas

of whom special mention may be made of 3 sanyasis.

1. Vathirayiruppu Ranganatha swamy

2.Vazhuthur VEdAntha RAmAnuja mahA DEsikan

3.Cheyyanam Sri Srinivasa swamy.

Sri gopAlarya MahA dEsikan took ascetic order just

before he reached thirunAdu in the year 1783.He had

the rare previlege of embracing the idol of

Aravamudhan , so as to render it more effectual and

was hailed as a MahA BhAgavathA.

 

Vazhuthur Andavan - was born in the month of Avani

Pooratadhi nakshathram in the tamil year

Rudrothkari ( 1744 AD) to Srinivasachar in

Vazhuthur.

He took sanyAsam from Paduka Sevaka Ramanuja Maha

Desikan, and became a fitting successor to Sri

Thirukkudanthai Desikan and lived in a small hut on

the southern bank of coleroon.

He left behind him a lots of sishyAs and

srivasachariar of Kanchipuram is one among them.

 

Sri Srinivasachariar took up sanyAsam and assumed the

name of Thiruthuraipoondi Andavan-

SrinivAsa RAmAnuja MahAdEsikan.His birth place is

Vilakkudi in Tanjore district.He belonged to the

illustrious vamsam of Eeyunni,Bharathwaja Gothram.

Born in the month of Aippasi -Uthirattadhi,he became

an erudite scholar and authentic

exponent of our Dharsana , under the holy feet of

Vazhuthur Andavan and was succeeded by PeriAndavan

 

Srimad PeriAndavan(25-2-1801 to 1884-feb)

He was born in the year Roudri-in the month of

Masi-Pushyam day - at Piliaranai village near

Kanchipuram.

Sri Srinivasa Raghavachariar's (PeriAndavan's) asrama

sweekaram took place around 1828. He observed 55

Chaturmasyams.He adorned thirunadu in Tamil year

subhanu varusham thai masam - krishna thrayodhasi -

thithi .(1884 jan-feb).

 

Sri Srinivasa Raghavachariar (chinnAndavan-Karthigai

Magham) lived from 1828 to 1894

adorned acharya peetam from Subanu -varusham (1883) in

the month of-ippasi Oct- nov to feb/march 1894 (

10years -3 months). He was together with H.H. Peria

andavan only for a period 3 months. Srimath

chinnAndavan adorned thirunadu on Vijaya

varusham-Thai-sukla sapthami thithi-(1894 feb/march)

 

There was a gap of 11 years in the Asrama

administration without any acharya.

 

KadanthEthi Andavan (Avani-Moolam) -(1829 to 1909)

His poorvasirama name was Sadhavadhani Varadha

Vedanthachar. Then in August ,1905, Visuvavasu

varsham in the month of -Avani Varadha Vedhanthachar

Swamy , as per the request of all Andavan sishyAs,

took up the sanyAsam to adorn acharya peetam to

perform acharya paduka aradhanam.

He was initiated into ThureeyAsramam by Srinivasa

satakopa yadheendra mahadesikan( popularly known as

thirukudanthai azhakiyasingar, 38th jeer of

Ahobila mutt). Sri kadanthethi andavan was acharya

for the period from August -1905 (visuvavasu Avani

month)and attained THIRUNADU ON keelaka

varusham in the month of mAsi KRISHNA PAKSHAM

dwadadasi thithi ie. on 17.2.1909 . He was in the

AchArya peetam for three and a half years.

 

Nammandavan's (Eeyunni Varadhachar-Avani-poorattadhi)

life period was from 1871 to 1932 . H.H .Kadanthethi

andavan initiated Sri Varadhachar swamy to

thureeyAsramam in the month of aug/sep 1908 (keelaka

varusham). They were together for a period of 6

months till 17.2.1909. H.H. Nammandavan performed 22

chAthurmAsyams till 1932. He adorned thirunadu on

Angeerasa varusham-in the month of Adi-22nd Krishna

panjami-06.07.1932 without appointing a

successor due to initial reluctance by sri.RangachAr

swamy (Akkur swamy) to accept the ascetic order .

 

Then Sri Akkur Sri Rangachar swamy

-Purattasi-Uthirattadhi(1880 to 1947), took up

achArya peetam in the year 1932 under Narayana

yadheendrar,( who was initiated into ascetic order

earlier by H.H. Nammandavan ) H.H.Akkur Andavan

performed 15 chathurmasyams till 1947. Akkur andavan

reached thirunadu on

wednesday-Viya-Panguni-6th-krishna dwadasi(19.3.1947)

 

 

Srimad Thembarai Venkata raghavachar swamy -(Avani

Revathi) ( 1886 to 1963) took the ascetic order on

Viya varusham Aippasi madham -21st Sukla Dwadasi Day

-06/10/1946 and became Thembarai Andavan .He was

together with H.H. Akkur andavan for 5 months till

19.3 1947. .He observed 16 ChAthurmAsyams. Thembarai

Andavan adorned thirunadu on 05/04/1963 .-subhakrith-

varusham Panguni-23rd-Magham-Sukla dwadasi-day

 

Srimad thirukudanthai Sri Srinivasa Raghavachariar

swamy (Kannan Swamigal) ( 1907 to 1989) took

ascetic order as Thirukkudanthai Andavan , on

Subhakrith-Panguni-23rd-magham-sukladwadasi-day, early

morning ,05.-04.1963 and thembarai

Andavan attained thirunadu on the same day after

initiating kannan swamigal as His

successor.Thirukkudanthai Andavan observed 25(twenty

five)chAthurmAsyams and His holiness adorned thirunadu

on Vibhava varusham -Panguni- KRISHNA PANJAMI DAY

i.e. on 10.4.1989

 

Mysore Andavan - Sri Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Desikan

was known as GOpAlAchar in his poorvasiramam . He was

born on 19.08.1909 i.e. Sowmya varusham in the month

of Avani and Uthira Natchathram. He also studied

Kalakshepha Granthams under Akkur Andavan , and

Thembarai Andavan . He was initiated into

Thureeyasramam by Thirukkudanthai Andavan on

11 -4-1988 ie. PRABHAVA varusham in the month of

PANGUNI SRAVANA nakshathram. He was in the AchArya

peetam together with Thirukkudanthai andavan for a

period of one year till 11.4.1989. He attained Moksham

shortly after a month on 22.5.1989 that is SUKLA

varusham V aikasi 9th Krishna dwidhiyai- monday.
