Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: A couple of days after my arrival at Chennai during the recent trip, a funny thing happened. I was going from Ambattur where I was staying to Mylapore on some private work by train. As I alighted from the train, and came out of the station, I was surprised to see a large gathering of Srivaishnavas with Poorna Kumbam et al. I was wondering how they came to know of my arrival! Some friends in the group who spotted me told me that H.H. Parakala Mutt Jeeyar was camping at Palathope opposite to the Railway Station and whisked me to the holy presence of H.H. H.H. told me that H.H. Azhagiyasinghar was arriving to perform Mangalaasaasanam to Lord Hayagreeva and asked me to wait and I did. Only then, I came to understand that Poorna kumbam was for Azhagiyasinghar! I had the baghyam of witnessing the two Yathivaras together and paying my respects to them. Earlier, when I went to pay my Danda Samarpanam to H.H. Parakala Matham Jeeyar at Pelathope, Mylapore, Chennai, he made kind enquiries about my trip and then told me about the proposed construction of the Mutt premises at Palathope. He directed me to publish an appeal from Sri T.C.Shrinivasan, M.A.B.L, Managing Trustee, S.B.S.P Mutt Development Trust, Chennai 600 092. And, here is the appeal. Kindly go through the appeal and contribute liberally to the noble cause blessed by H.H. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy =================================================================== AN APPEAL “It has been the earnest desire of many citizens of Chennai to establish a branch of Sri Parakala Mutt of Mysore at Chennai and a hall for conducting religious functions etc. Although efforts have been made to get a suitable plot of land within the city during the last 3 years for constructing the Mutt, much progress could not be made due to various factors. However, fortunately, the Vedanta Desika Vana Bhojana Trust has very kindly agreed recently to give a piece of land at Palathope to the above trust on a lease for constructing the premises. Palathope is at Vedanta Desika Street and is opposite to Thiru Mayilai Railway Station, Mylapore. With the blessings of Lord Hayagreeva and His Holiness Sri Parakala Mutt Swami, the Bhoomi pooja for the construction of the temple was done on 6th June 2002. Of the various Sri Vaishnavite Mutts, the Parakala Mutt is the oldest. It was established in 1333 at Kanchipuram, but was later on shifted to Mysore. The Maharajas of Mysore are Sishyas of the Mutt. Lord Hayagreeva, the presiding deity of Parakala Mutt was worshipped by Goddess Saraswathi and was later on given to Swamy Ramanuja for worship. Then, the deity came to Swamy Vedantha Desika who worshipped it throughout his life. Later on, he gave it to Shri Brahmatanthra Swamy, the first jeeyar of Parakala Mutt for worship. So far, 35 Peedathipathis have worshipped the deity. The present Peedathipathi, Shri Abhinava Vaageesa Brahma Tantra Swatantra Swamy who is the 36th Swamy of the Mutt, has been worshipping the deity for the last 10 years. Swamiji’s soulabhyam and Souseelyam has attracted thousands of Sishyas to him. His even handed treatment of rich and poor alike and his always beaming smile and calm nature and his Anugraham to many to solve their personal problems, have attracted thousands of admirers and Sishyas all over India and abroad towards him. As per present estimates, it has been estimated that the construction of Mutt, an Ashramam and a hall to hold religious functions would cost about Rs.25 lakhs. It is the earnest desire of His Holiness Shri Swamy of Parakala Mutt that all Sishyas and admirers should contribute their mite for the early construction of the Mutt. Keeping the consideration mentioned above, the SBSP Mutt Development Trust, which was specially formed by His Holiness, Shri Parakala Mutt Swamy for the construction of the Mutt, appeals earnestly to Business establishments, individuals, Srivaishnavas, admirers, NRIs etc. to contribute liberally for this noble cause. All contributions will be thankfully received and faithfully applied. Exemptions under 80G is available for the contributions. Your valuable contribution may kindly be sent by Cheque / Draft in favor of SWAMIJI PARAKALA MUTT or SBSP MUTT DEVELOPMENT TRUST: Donations in favor of the SBSP Mutt Development Trust will get 80G exemption.
