In the Thirupavvai, Sri Andal refers to Annadhanam as generating Dharma ( sorey

Arancheyyum). Annadhanam on "Offering of Food is the Exclusive Privilege of

Ladies. The Sastras declare that only Ladies can Offer Food to Saniyasis and

Brahmins. Only they can offer Rice Biksha to Young Boys on the Day of their

Upanayana (Theread Ceremony). Further, entertaining guests is also prerogative

of Ladies. Thus Annadhanam is not a Privilege but a scared duty cast on Ladies.

Epics Record the Fact that Sita Devi, Draupadi and Rishipatnis strictly followed

this practice in the lines and entertainer several holy guests.

 

While Offering Food and entertaining guests any where and any time would

Defenitely yield merit Punyam to the Ladies, doing so at SRIRANGAM, Particularly

to the Vedic Scholars, Bhagavathas and Koil Archakas (Srirangam) that too in

Scared KAISIKA DWADASI Day will bring in untold merit to the Donors. The Merit

so accrued will Satisfy the Hunger and Thirsts to anyone suffering in Narakas.

That is why it is said that, No other Donations such as, Offering clothes,

Money,Education etc.can equal to Annadhanam . For this Reason Only Sri Paduka

Shasra Parayana Ladies Offering Food to Vedic Scholars, Bhagavathas and Koil

Archakas for the Seventh Year in Succession at Sri Ahobila Math Premises, East

Chitra Street Srirangam on KAISIKA DWADASI.

NOTE :

An Interesting Fact is that this year Festival days of Kaisika Dwadisi and

Vaikunta Dwadisi are celebrated at Srirangam only ahead of the usual dates which

are observed at their temple towns. The reasons is as Follows, while Rama was

Ruling at Ayoudhya, He was celebrating a Chariot Procession for the Lord

Ranganatha ( His Household Deity ) on Thai Punarvasu day every year. This

Practice was continued at Srirangam by King Bhupathi by having a Ten Day

Festival culminating with Chariot Procession for Lord Ranganatha. This Year

Thai Punarvasu falls on 18.01.2003 itself. Hence the Ten Day Festival Commences

in the Margazhi itself. Consequently , the dates of VAIKUNTA EKADASI and

KAISIKA EKADASI at Srirangam are Advanced to 15.12.2002 and 15.11.2002 keeping

in view with Adhyena utsavam which begins on 5.12.2002. This Happens at

Srirangam Once in 8 or 9 years. At , All other places, there is no change in

the dates of these Festival which may Kindly be noted.
