Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: Here is a response on the subject from Sri K. Devanthan Swami. He has requested us to post this in "Sri Ranga Sri" For some reason, his postings to do not get to land on the sites intended. Similar difficulties have been experienced by some others also. They have informed in private mails and we have taken up the matter with the Administrators. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ================================================================== Ref: On God’s desire. The discussion on the above subject is interesting. Adiyen’s humble submission (Adiyen seyyum vinnappam): In the very last pasuram of Tiruvoimozhi(at the end of tenth decad), Saint Nammazhwar enjoys thus: AvAvaracchuzh ariyai ayanai aranai alatri AvAvatru vEdu petra kurukur satagopan chonna AvAvilandhAdhikalAl ivai Ayiramum, mudintha AvAvilandhAdhi IppatharindAr pirandhAr uyarndE Sriman Narayana, Who mingles with a yearning (desire) with His AsrithAs (devotees), Who is the AntaryAmi of all including Brahma and Rudra, was successfully sought by Satakopa with a passionate longing (desire), in an impelling manner. With his ambition (desire) now fulfilled, he is in communion with the Supreme Being. This concluding decad sung in Parambhakti (desire), from among a thousand pasurams, will ensure the blessing of being born as heavenly Nityasooris’ equal. Rhyming words form part of any poetry, but in this last pasuram, it is significant Nammazhwar uses the same term ‘AvA’ in each of the four lines. The first AvA (desire) in AvAvaracchuzh , the yearning of Sriman Narayana, should be read as His infinite merciful love towards His creations. The second AvA in AvAvatru is the fulfillment of the longing of the Azhwar for communion with the Lord. The third AvA in AvAvilandhAdhikalAl connotes the intense craving for God that led to the genesis of these pasurams. The fourth AvA in AvAvilandhAdhikalAl conveys the meaning that this last decad (ten pasurams) is also as a result of Paramabhakti(desire) that guarantees birth in the abode of Nityasooris when sung with devotion. While God descends with a desire (merciful love) to mingle with us, we, as devotees can elevate ourselves to reach Him with a craving desire for Him. The desire here is mutual and the link can be perceived when we take up the very first pasuram of Tiruvoimozhi. In the AndhAdhi style where the last word of a pasuram is the first word of the next pasuram, Azhwar’s last pasuram of the thousand songs ends with ‘UyarnthE’. Then coming back to the very first pasuram at the starting point, we find that the pasuram begins with ‘Uyarvara’. Says the Azhwar, ‘Oh, my mind!, to get elevated, worship the effulgent feet of the One Lord Who possesses matchless auspicious qualities (KalyAna GunAs)’. Thus the meeting point is culmination of the mutual ‘desires’ of God (to ennoble our souls) and the devotees (to elevate ourselves). The path for the progress is laid down in nine steps by Vedanta Desika inhis ‘ParamapadaSopAnam’. With PranAms. Dasan - K.Devanathan _______________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8.
