Swamy Deshikan Thiruvadigale Sharanam !!!

Today happens to be the thirunakshatram of Sri

Thiruthraippoondi Andavan, Sri Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Deshikan. This great

acharya was born in the constellation of Uttara Bhadrapada in the month of

Aippasi in a village called ViLakkudi.near Rajamannar Sannidhi and hailed from

IyuNNi Bharadhvaja gothram.

He studied all the samanya shastras, Ubhaya Vedanta and Rahasyas at the feet of

Sri Vedanta Ramanuja Maha Deshikan or Vazhutur Swamy who was very well known as

"Srimad Andavan" at Srirangam and also performed.prapatti at the feet of Sri

Vazhuttur Andavan. Sri Vazhuttur Andavan chose him to be his successor for

sampradaya samrakshanam and initiated him into the fourth order of Sanyasam,

with the title Sri Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Deshikan.

During his stay at Thiruthuraippoondi, Sri Vazhuttur Swamy conferred the title

"Andavan" to Sri Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Deshikan and from that day onwards Sri

Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Deshikan came to be

known as Thiruthuraippoondi Andavan. He was a scholar of great calibre and lived

in an Ashramam with utmost vairagyam and anushtanam on the banks of the river

Kollidam at Arangam. He conducted vedantic debates and kalakshepams. He had many

shishyas, prime amongst them being Sri Srinivasa Maha Deshikan (Periyandavan)

who studied all esoterics at the feet of Sri Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Deshikan.

He remained deeply dedicated to the sampradayam and placed Srimad Andavan

sampradayam on a firm footing and as a beacon light to

thirsty aspirants.

His taniyan reads as follows -

shrImadgopAlasUrerniravadhikaruNAvApta satsampradAyam

yasmin satsampradAyam sakalamupadishan amshatonupravishta:

"I pray at the lotus feet of that blemishless great acharya Sri

Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Deshikan in whom Sri Vazhuttur Swamy did

anupravesham and who recieved the wealth of satsampradayam from

Srimad Vedanta Ramanuja Swamy who (Sri Vazhuttur Swamy) propagated

this wealth after obtaining it from the boundless mercy of the great

Gopalarya Maha Deshikan (Thirukkudanthai Deshikan)"
