Guest guest
Dear Members I would like to add to the nice clarifications by Sriman Aravindalocana svAmin. ahankAra (I-consciousness or chit) is a fundamental ontological entity in SrI viSishThAdvaita and there is no false ego associated with usage of words such as 'aham' or 'I' (=bhagavat-dAsa). Having described the process of performing the sAddhyOpAya prapatti along with its essential components & sAttvika-tyAga in the initial verses, svAmi SrI deSika proceeds to request nir-aparAdha kainkarya during remainder of prapanna's bondaged life (uttara-kRtyam) in this material world: "mAm madIyam ca nikhilam cetana-acetanAtmakam sva-kainkarya-upakaraNam varada ! svIkuru svayam". The word "mAm" ("mine") here refers to people & things, the prapanna comes to be associated with even in his post-prapatti life, due to material association (prakRti-sambandha/prArabdha-karma). This is evident from SrI SaraNAgati-gadyam. Having performed prapatti thus: "SrIman ! nArAyANa ! ...tvad-pAdAravinda-yugaLam SaraNam-aham prapadye!", bhagavad-rAmAnujAcArya proceeds to request the Lord's forgivance of even offenses that may occur in the future due to prArabdha-karma/material contact in post-prapatti life. Please refer SaraNAgati-gadyam, "mano-vAk-kAyai:... anAdi-kAla-pravRttam... ...madIya-anAdi-kAla-pravRttam.... iti-vaktAram mAm tAraya" . Thus even for a prapanna, prArabdha-karma & prakRti-sambandham can cause delusion, mamakAram, poor behaviour, propensity to offend etc. In "mAm madIyam ca nikhilam ..." svAmi SrI deSikan could be praying that prapanna's so-called possessions (arising out of material association and prArabdha karma) be utilized by the Lord in His own devotional service. Hope it clarifies, aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsa: //Ramkumar PS:- Though others had conferred upon him such glorious titles as 'sarva-tantra svatantra', 'vedAnta-Acharya' etc, the only title our svAmi deSikan himself wished for is 'pAdukA-sEvakan' (subservience to the Lord & His devotees): "kAle jantUn kalushakaraNe kshipramAkArayantyA ghOram nAham yama-parishado ghoshamAkarNayeyam | SrImad-rangeSvara-caranayo: antarangai: prayuktam sevAhvAnam sapadi SRNuyAm pAdukA-sevaka-iti ||" -- SrI-ranganAtha-pAdukA-sahasram, nirveda-paddhati 19 _____________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
