Sudarshan Agaram. ================================================================================\ ============================= Notes from a previous upanyasam. [Please pardon me with any errors in the translation] Swami mentioned the various indriyas or senses that are discussed in SriBhashya. The opponents in discussion question if there are only seven indriyas and if the Mukhya Prana is also included in the classification. The Suthra kara replies that there are in fact eleven indriyas within our body. The first seven brought up by the opponent include the nose, ear, tongue, skin and mind. Along with these, there are also the hands, legs, genital and excretory organs etc. which make a total of 11 indriyas. The Mukhya Prana is a special type of vayu. It is a transformed form of vayu or air. The Suthrakara further goes on to explain that the Mukhya prana is superior to all the senses and functions in five different areas within our body. The Prana functions in the heart, pramana in the navel, apana in excretory and the udana in the neck. The fifth function is to operate throughout the body. The Mukhya Prana is not an Indriya and is outside of the classification of the eleven indriyas. ================================================================================\ ============================
