Guest guest
dear srivaishnavas, this is first time i am sending out a mail in this group....but i thought it was necessary to share (or remind if already known !!) something i know .... we keep harping on the word "hindu" throughout & simultaneously talk about the greatness of the vedas....but unfortunately there is not a single mention of "hindu" in the vedas....people living along river sindhu were called "sindhus" and that in due course came to be known as hindus... the vedas talks about the 4 varnas, viz brahmana, kshatriya , vysya and sudra...and it is one's nature and activities during his life time which decides which of the above he falls under ... also i have heard that a "vaisnava" is a person who develops pure love for GOD & continues to remain in GOD consciousness throughout ....he also understands who he is (apart from material designations )...the spirit soul...and tries to live accordingly... lastly i think vedas is a subject which is interpreted according to the level of consciuos- ness we are in ....and for that we can not be involved in mundane worldly affairs....Firstly understanding who we are and our original constituitional position,we need to take to the prescribed processes (eg. bhakti yoga)...the easiest and best..!! to progress effectively.. i am sorry if i have offended any feelings or beliefs ...i did it purely to share something i was fortunate to know about & which should be of interest to any inqusitive person in this regard .. - barath ______________________ Missed your favourite TV serial last night?
