Guest guest
Dear sir I don't know if any discussions are welcome on this issue? But just share my limited knowledge - 1.Mind can be controlled by mind only 2.Sometimes out of sight is out of mind- like only when we see mangoes during summer our craving starts. 3.Satvic food etc , breathing practices; pranayamam checks velocity of mind 4. Actually we have to welcome certain enemies like vairagya, sense control etc which will later on become good friends of our mind. Once bigger enemy comes the weaker ones like kama, krodha etc automatically walks out. In such a company only we can expect the Lord to take permanent seat. Learned people call it like " Sama" and " Dama" Definitely I am not the right candidate to dwell on this mysterious topic. In hindi they say man jite jag jitey. People say it is difficult but not impossible. Guest guest
Sri Krishnaya Namah! As Sri Krishna says in BG, the mind can be our friend or the foe, depending on our usage. It would be better, if the bhagavathas in this forum express their methodology adopted to control wavering mind. Life styles differ for each one of us but we are bound by the same external influences whether in office or in home and it is our foremost duty to first train and control mind. To controls ones mind is very difficult, that too in this age where money/power plays a key role. Some of the normal things, that we can do in our daily life would be to -- 1. Takeout the cable connection out of our tv sets and hear only bhajans and kirtans of Lord or View only Aastha or Sanskar channels for productive usage of time 2. Keep busy during idle times in reading epics and sutras 3. Take only sathvik food to enable sound sleep and sound thoughts 3. Have a strict regimen in the morning hours by waking up early to do naimithika karma and yoga with pranayam. Pranayam is a wonderful in combating wavering mind. If done in padmasana for 1/2 hour (max.) this will do wonders, while asanas help in allowing sound thoughts and ensuring sound health. 4. Mix with people who are having similar thoughts like us, i.e., bhagavathas. Otherwise, we may end up in idle chat involving passing of snide remarks/jokes on someone, indulging in paraninda etc. 5. Complete control on food & drinks. Abstain completely from outside food. Sathvik food devoid of onions/garlic are the best bet. Infact, this has to be ingrained in our household that food plays a role in forming our mindset. If we have a habit of hearing discourses on BG (because this only has all the answers that one has in this world), we can learn a lesson or two. I used to hear discourses on BG by Sri.Asaramji, Sri Parma Row, Sri Parthasarathy etc., on Sanskar/Aastha channel. The way they mention on combating desires (like food, sexual thoughts etc.,) is noteworthy. If we have a innate ability to grasp the finer points, and if we don't have access to Vedas and literatures of Alwars, this is the better way. 6. Nama japam is the most effective way to keep our mind busy and focussed. 7. If possible move away from city life and welcome secluded village life. 8. Be a loner and enjoy the silence that dawns on you. Refer Sri Sri's discourses on Silence. Introspect the days happening and think bad for the bad things that might have happened knowingly/unknowingly, Because sins once committed takes many lifes to come out it. 9. Before all the above, we should first analyse ourselves as to which group we belong - sathvik, rajasik or tamasik and then strive and get ourselves upgraded with His krupa. We should have to do our bit and choose our path, before seeking blessings from Him. Once we acquire knowledge and wisdom, bhakti grows. These are what my thoughts and I apologise if I sound naive. Guest guest
Swamin What is this? Narayana Smaranam swamin. Fall in love with this great name and hear it every second. ay it every second. Mind will rest easy. If you (or we feed) more feeble and transitory, it is then mind is uneasy and we become subject to what follows. Om Namo Narayanaya namah! Everything else will fade sometime or other. Except this "petra thaiyinum aayeena seyum namo narayana ennum namam" When we reach a stage where we see and feel this great name, then we are at the end of all things transitory! we should never engage in distractive discussions. Let us have faith in the intelligence of Swamy Nammazwar and Swamy Desikan. Why should we even question what they have generously given us. There is no need to prove which name is better, what will happen if I did this...etc. All these questions are beginner and useful at that stage. Once we lock on to Narayana Smaranam then there is no debate. Nor should we engage in those. When we do we end up tearing beautiful children amongst us who are born in different circumstances and are not able to follow everything that we "promulgate" to be part of their family. We are offending them. What we must focus on and nothing else is this love affair with Sriman Narayana. Get our mind wedded inseparably to Sri and Sriman Narayana. Then it does not matter if I am wearing a symbol or not much less what symbol I am wearing. Furthermore, it does not matter if I go to Church or a mosque or any place of worship..while being focussed on Sriman Narayana. And this great bhaktavatsala will appear in the form we desire HIM. I am not saying this. Swamy Nammazwar has said so, thanca maagiya thanthai thaayodu thaanu maayavai allanaay, enca lilama rarku lamudhal moovar thammuLLu maathiyai, anci neerula katthuL LeergaL! avani vanenRu koozEnmin, nenci Nnaal_ninaip paanya vanavan aagum neeLkadal vaNNanE. --3.6.9 TVM More learned members can further beautify this Pasuram. All our blemishes by choice or without choice HE overlooks. adiyen did not choose to be born in a utthiramerur Srimad Andavan parampara. Nor did my parents and my sweet mother choose to stuff me in my windbag. Being so why should we attribute any significance to anything that goes with such a chance event. Everytime a question comes to our mind questioning these sort of fundamental notions, then we ought to ask do I know more than Swamy Desikan? Can I ever know more than Swamy Desikan. The answer is obvious. If not convinced then we ought to seek Swamy Nammazwar and ask the same questions. We ought to be convinced at this point. All human contrived procedures are to be discounted. Symbols, ways of dressing, are all ephemeral and are not so consequential to maintain our love affair with Sriman Narayana. HE is not looking for it. We make this up here and make a big fuss. It is our limitation. adiyen cannot forget the people in ecstasy in Badri, Rishikesh and Haridhwar. None of them would qualify for anything for my village priest. One must see to get an idea of the enjoyment and communiion with the great one. In saying this adiyen definitely has ventured into a questionable land. Worse yet my words might even be taken for disrespect or misguidance. I have met and I have many friends who are born in non Iyengar environment showing much more reverence and love for Lakshmi Narasimha. I am writing this not to offend the elderly and the learned amongst us but to salute these others. Share my friendship with them. That is the community I want to be with. I do not know how to write this in a less insinuating way. All please find room to forgive me for saying all these, this afternoon. tvayi raxati raxakaiH kimanyaiH tvayi chaaraxati raxakaiH kimanyaiH. iti nishchita dhiiH shrayaami nityaM nR^ihare vegavatii taTaashrayaM tvaam.h oM naaraayaNaaya vidmahe vaasudevaaya dhiimahi | tanno vishhNuH prachodayaat.h Om Namo Narayanaya Om Namo Bagavade Vasudevaya Om Namo Vishnave What we fail to see and derive out of these great vakyams is not worth it.
