Guest guest
Respected Learned: I heard that Andavan Shisiyas have to do Yajur upakarma on 13th July. There is no mention about Gayathri Japam. Should it be performed on july 14th or later. Also nothing is mentioned about the time. Usually I use Shri. Sundar Kidambi's procedures or Shri. Mani Varadarjans procedures to perform Avani Avittam. But I could not see any discussion related to this. Can someone give me some answers to my questions. AdiyEn Ramanuja Dasan
Guest guest
Gayathri Japam is on Aug 12th for everybody. Ahobila Mutt sishyas will do Yajur Upakarma(except the first) and Gayathri on the same day, Aug 12th. Prathamoupakarma for these people will be on July 13th. After prathassandyavandanam, Kamokarsheeth japam and Gayathri japam will be done on Aug 12th. After noon the rest of the upakarma procedure will be followed. K. P. Also nothing is mentioned about the time. > For the USA Yajur Upakarma this year is on August 11th and Gayathri Japam is on August 12th. This is for everyone residing in north America. For India both Yajur Upakarma and Gayathri Japam are on Aug 12th, except for Pradama Upakarma (Thalai Avani Avittam). In India, Pradama Upakarma (Thalai Avani Avittam) must be done on July 13th. But even for them Gayathri Japam is only on Aug 12th with everyone else. The day before Gayathri Japam is Upavasam, i.e. palaharam. Sri Nrisimha Priya states that for India both Upakarma and Gayathri japam must be observed on Aug 12th. This is because Powrnami is present after 12 nAzhigai, but Pradamai commences 12 vinadi after that. However, due to the presence of pradamai during this time, those performing Pradhama Upakarma (Thalai Avani Avittam) ONLY must perform it on July 13th, but perform Gayathri Japam with everyone else on Aug 12th. Once again all of this is only for India and perhaps points east of India. If you are located located too far to the east of India Gayathri Japam may have to be observed only on August 13th if Pradamai commences after 15 nAzhigai from Sun rise. Please visit: http://www.ahobilamutt.org/panjangam/listing-01.asp to get a calendar of star/titi for any location. Then, just apply the rule given below to figure out when to perform what. The rule: [1] For Upakarma, Powrnami must be present after 12 nAzhigai. Gayathri japam is done on Pradamai, the next day. [2] If Pradamai commences after 12 nAzhigai but before 15 nAzhigai, then both Upakarama and Gayathri Japam must be performed the same day. When this happens, Pradama Upakarma ONLY must be done on previous Powrnami. For a detailed explanation refer to Ahnika Grantham written by Srimad Azhagiya Singar in poorvasramam. -- Dileepan p.s. The page mentioned above is still under testing. Please give me your feedback.
