Namaste,

adiyen has a small doubt about saayam(evening)sandhyavandhanam.i

heard that we can do the saayam sandhyaavndhanam facing west

(sun),if the sun is can be seen in the sky.But Some other person

told me that the saayam sandhyavandhanam should be done only

facing north, whatever be the state of sun.

Forgive if anything is wrong from adiyen's point.

Whatever the mistake be done is all adiyen's .

Desikar thiruvadigale saranam,

Thirumalai.

Shriman Suresh Raghavan's doubt regarding sayam sandhya : Arghyam is always to

be done facing the sun and hence facing west & actually should be timed just

before the sun sets.

Acharyas say in tamil " Kaanada Koonaada Kandu". Morning sandhya is before

sunrise (kaanada- u dont see the sun yet), Mid-day when the sun is straight

above u (Koonada), Sayam is before sun set i.e. 'Kandu'.

Japam also should be done in a sitting 'padmasana' posture facing west.

Adiyen Dasan from Kesavan,

Actually its been a practise to do the Sayam

Sandhiyavandhanam facing either East or North till the

Prokshanam stage and then we need to give the Arkyam

facing west. this has been the practise which Adiyen

learnt from the Periyavas in previous years. Hope this

gives some clarity for the doubt of the requestor.

Actually the Gayatri Japam is supposed to be done

facing West and the Ashtashksharam is always done

facing North since the Thiruashtaksharam is done for

the Lord Badri Narayanan who is facing North in his

Posture. Hence this is practise as for as I know.

Adiyen beg pardon if there is any istake in this

regard.

Thasan from Kesavan.
