Dear Sri Ramachandran,

 

Your write-up on the subject is excellent and I appreciate your time and again

stress on sandhyvandanam. It is a mandatory ritual/karma for all the eligible

human beings ( for all three varnAs) to do sandhya. Otherwise all other

karmas/ritual including temple worship, ArAdhanai etc will not have any effect

on the doer.

 

I used to ponder over these lines ( Sooryasya mamanyusya ..., aApa punandu

prithiveem ...., Agnisya ... ) as these are all prayers/solutions to get rid of

ones sins every sandhya kAlam in a day ( All accumulated sins between two

kAlams, goes away by next kAlam Sandhya). Though it seems indirectly allows one

to do sins as one knows how to escape from punishments. But the real meaning of

this can be construed as one will not indulge or even think of doing any bad

act as Gayathri will direct one's buddhi to function in dhArmic lines if

sandhya is performed with full faith & sincerity.
