Dear friends

I wanted to understand the views of "learned" members and "swAmis" in

the list about various forms of pundara dhAranam.

I have few specific questions.

1)There are many kinds of pundara dhAranam suggested by shruthi(s) and

smruthis. There are many claims in support of both types of pundara

dhAranam(thriyak and urdhva) How are they reconcilled?

(Please note My question is not about how the urdhava pundaram has to

be smeared but why only urdhav pundaram ahs to be smeared and not

thriyak pundaram/(basmam))

2)There is a specific Manthra as claimed by Nir Visesha advaitha

(antharanga sAktha) smArthAs (in short neo advaithins) which appears

in shruthi(s). This manthrA is to be meditated upon/recited/chanted by

the one who smears basmam(as thriyak pundaram).

They hence claim that only basma dhAranam is supported by vedAs.They

also claim that pAnchrAthris during AgamA initation or during homam

smear homa basmam and hence say that only basma dhAranam is vaidhEkam.

[The above question (2) is actually may not be from any neo-adhvaithin

that you may stumble upon but infact it is from "nadamAdum dheivam"

/"nadamAdiya dheivam" simply "dheivathin kural".(sic)

]

My next question

(3)Are there any manthrAs from the shruthi(s)(Vedas) to be

recited/meditated/chanted upon during urdhva pundara dhAranam? Be it

gopi Chandhanam or thiruman.

I hope I get an answer with pramAnams and "non sentimental" answers.

regards

VenkatarAghava dhAsan
