No karma is more important than doing sandyavandanam. For Srivaishnavas in general, and prapannas in particular, it is equally important to avoid devatantra (demi-god) sambandam. Sandyavandanam contains a few mantras that do invoke devathanthras. However, a Sri Vaishnava must not abandon sandyavandanam for any reason. Therefore, when we recite them during sandya vandanam, we should do so not as manthras of the devathanthras, but with the firm knowledge that they are directed at the lotus feet of Sriman Narayana who is the indweller of all. Hence, our lapses, known or unkown, are forgiven by none other than Sriman Narayana only. -- Dileepan
Guest guest
Respected Dileepan Sir: Fair enough..point is absolutely valid. Procedural and belief aspect may differ from sect to sect...example a Rig Veda Sandhya has some differentiating points from the Sama Sandhya or the Yajur...similarly the one for ShriVaishnavas and the Shaivas has procedural/ritualistic differences. The Acharayas are the right persons to guide each as to mantras and other finer aspects of the Sandhya. Even among sects as one proceeds towards the north, within both Shaivaites and ShriVaishnavas closer to the river Narmada in Gujarat area the procedures, prayers, mantras differ, while the ones closer to the Himalayas and in the Garwahl regions have different and lengthy mantras, prayers etc. In Maharashtra itself cenrtain communities based in Pune include the Suryanamaskara with the Sandhya. However, the singular most common aspect is the frequent references to the various names of Lord Vishnu, especially during achamanam. This is common across all sects, ShriVaishnavaites as well as Shaivaites. So also is the penultimate surrender "Saranagathi chantings to Sanka Chakra Gada,,," referring to Sriman Narayanan without any shred of doubt To each his own but as you have pointed out rightly Sandhya must be done come what may om tat sat Tat tvam asi "dileepan" <dileepan u> cc: Regarding Sandyavandanam 10/09/03 02:18 AM > > since you are already doing/done the Sandya you have anyway knowingly, or > unknowingly recognised your problem and also asked for forgivness to the > Sun to Burn out these lapses....
