Guest guest
Heaven is place where good men live after life in a place ruled and controlled by King Indra. They dont age and hence donot have troubles and pains of HUMAN LIFE form. They eat and drink and have fun with women dancing around etc. This is what I know from when I was probably 6 yrs old. Now at the age of 26 I wonder what is in it for women? What is supposed to be "SWARGAM" for women? Apart from praying for their husbands and kids and ofcourse caring for home. What happens to them after "after life"? If they are not loyal to their husbands they go to hell, thats clear. How does Hinduism treat women in this matter. If heaven and hell were created to impart fear in people then what attracts women towards heaven? Is there anything related to this in any vedas? How does heaven look in vedas or any other devotional books? I donot have much knowledge about vedas or manosastra, so, I will be glad if any body can help out. Any comments !!! Guest guest
Dear friend, I write this to you in a spirit of friendship and brotherliness and so please do not get unduly offended. You pose these questions perhaps out of sincerity and a genuine sense of inquiry. But you should be careful in future as to the language in which questions are framed. Reading your post one may get the mistaken impression that your attitude to womanhood is cavalier. I'm sure you mean no disrespect to womanhood but my advice to you is to be very circumspect in these matters. As to your question itself, you should first learn that at the core of Hinduism is a philosophy called 'Vedanta' and at the very root of this Vedanta is the belief in Soul ('AtmA'). The Atma knows no gender. There is no such thing as feminine soul and masculine soul. It is only the body that gets differentiated by gender. When an Atma attains liberation from the cycle of birth-death- rebirth, it is said to attain 'mOksha'. You asked about 'svarga'. Now 'svarga' and 'mOksha' in Hinduism do not mean the same thing. 'Heaven' or 'Paradise' as it is generally known in Christianity or Islam is virtually alien to Hinduism or Vedanta. The conception of 'Heaven' in Vedanta is very profound and it has nothing to do with the sort of "dancing around" that you speak of in your post. My suggestion to you is that before you go inquiring into any subject, it is better to first get acquainted with its fundamentals, concepts and principles. You have to get familiar with its idiom and language. Only then can you understand its substance. Thereafter you are free to pursue the subject through rigorous inquiry and challenging questions. Why don't you first start with taking up a good book on Hinduism and study it threadbare. For starters, why don't you go the archives of and begin reading Sri Anbil Ramaswamy's "Hinduism Re- discovered"? Guest guest
Dear Friend, I have decided to answer ur query in a very simple language. I might have over simplified so for a good treatise I suggest u follow the advise of Sudarshan swamy. According to hinduism 'swarga' or 'Naakam' (another name for swarga) is a place where there is no unhappiness. 'Naraka' is a place where there is always torture & punishment & no happiness. Both swarga & naraka are controlled by superior souls 'termed' Devas. They are called 'Kama rupis' too. It means that they can assume any form they want. A 'punya atma' - termed as a soul which has amassed lot of punya by good deeds is bestowed with enjoyment of the swarga 'called sawrganandam'. A papathma is destined to spend time in Naraka. All these are to completely consume the earned punya or papa by the soul and then the cycle of entering into a new 'Janma' starts for the soul. All these are decided by the most superior soul the 'paramathma'. One can get out of this vicious circle of cycles by only his grace & to work for it is to perform supreme surrender to him & lead a life of his servant following his wishes & dictats. This is the highest & everlasting bliss which he can bestow on the 'atmas' which is termed 'Moksha'. It is completely different from swarganandam & here the atma attains the paramathma serves him & enjoys with him. Gender is a gift given by nature & has got nothing to do with the anandams or the cons which has been described above as Sudarshan swamy has put it aptly. Every being in this world owing their birth have a prescribed way of life by sastras which are to be adhered. Lord only looks at the adherence and not at the gender or the caste for that matter. Lord has equal passion to all atmas in the world and is interested that every one should attain him i.e. 'moksha'. He strives for it & expects the 'atmas' to reciprocate. Hindu society as a whole treats 'women' & 'men' equally. The first sentence for a shishya from an acharya is "Mathru devo bhava" - looks as though women are bestowed upon with even a slightly superior position. I will stop here & allow u to reflect. Guest guest
Dear shri narsimhan Your reply is nice, but i have some doubts 1 )According to one's own accumulated papa or punya if the jeevatma goes to swargam or naraka then the birth we take in this earth should only be a chance for liberation, but many people here are suffering and we say this because of his papa or punya he has done in his/her previous births . So this is becoming like double punishment or double reward ( for those who are enjoying the life in this earth, though the ultimate joy is to serve paramathma (nithya suris)). 2) If men and women are same to paramatma then why we don't allow womens to do sandhyavandhanam or during samasrayanam we don't even give the privilege of chanting Ohm they have to say um ( i hope so). Please calrify . If there are anything wrong in my doubts it is purly because of my ignorance.
