>A Heart-filling Reminiscence – Annual Utsavam 2003

>

> The 10-day Annual Festival, to conclude on the Purattasi-Sravanam, the

>Thiru Avatara Day of Swami Nigamantha Maha Desikan, was conducted at our

>Sabha Premises, between 26th September to 5th October- 2003, with usual

>Sevakalam (rendering) of 3 Vedas, Srimad Rahasyatraya Saram -

>Yadavabhyudayam Grantas and 4000-Diyva Prabandham, along with Desika

>Prabandham & Stotras. The Highlights of the festival were:

>

> 1. Utsavam to Ghantavatara Desikan, the presiding Acharya of our

>Sabha, in company with the newly installed Idol of Swami Desika (as at

>Thiruvahindirapuram).

>

> 2. The visit of Lord Sri Prahlada Varada and His Concerts, along

>with Swami Desika of Chembur Ahobila Mutt, on the Third day of the

>Festival, to bless us with Thirumanjana Sevai. An elaborate Thirumanjana

>Kattiyam, Upanyasam and Bhagavatha Thadeeyaradhanam were the special

>features of the day.

>

> 3. Utsava Ubhayam by Andal Goshti on the 8th Day, when

>Chiriya-Peria Thirumadals were recited.

>

> 4. Swami Desika's Mangalasasanam of Divya Desa Emberumans, Alwars

>& Acharyas and a finale with Saranagati of Swami Desika at the Lotus feet

>of the Presiding Emberuman of the Sabha, Lord Lakshminarasimha - on the

>lines of Thooppul/ Thiruvahindirapuram Divyadesams.

>

> 5. Thirumanjanam of Desika Idols, with rendering of Thaitthariya

>Upanishad, Neerattam and Special Kattiyam on Acharya - under the caring

>guidance of Agama-Veda Vidwan Sri u ve. Nagappatinam Raju Vadyar Swamy.

>

> 6. On all 10 days, rendering of few Desika Prabandha Pasurams, tuned

>to Carnatic Music by Sri Venkatachariyar Swami, a member of the Sabha.

>

> 7. On the concluding day, Ammanai song and Gummi (Dance) performance

>by Sabha's Andal Goshti

>

> 8. A 10 day Upanyasam by Sri Sowmyanarayanan, starting on Avatara Day

>- the topics being 'Swami Desika - His devotion to Lord Narasimha,

>Namperymal, Devayanayakan, & Devadhirajan - Kritis by and on him'.

>

> 9. Donations of jewels - like stone-studded Ear Rings, Pendant,

>Thirumankaappu - for both the Idols and Sudarsana-Panchajanyam &

>Yagnyopavitham for Peria Desikan, in addition to lot of Pattu Vastrams from

>Desika Bhaktas.

>

> The festival was followed by 'Sahasranama Laksharchana on Swami Desika'

>on the 18th and 19th October, 2003. This 'Never before - maiden'

>performance of Laksharchana, received over-whelming response from

>Devotees, in so much so, more than 250 Archanas were performed in 10

>Batches. The Devotees were presented a Ten gram Silver Dollar - depicting

>Ghantai Desikan of the Sabha on the one side and a sloka on Him by His son,

>Swami Nainarachariyar.

>

> On this occasion, a compendium captioned 'Pracheena Achara Sangraha'

>by Vaikuntavasi Sri u ve Navalpakkam Ayya Devanatha Thatha Desikan,

>published by the Sabha, was released by Sri Ranganathan IAS (Retd)

>

> The success of these functions, with the Anugraha of The Acharya, has

>reset our target to publication of more Books and a plan to conduct 'KOTI

>ARCHANA' on Acharya Sarvabhowman. With His blessings and support of all

>Devotees, the Sabha is confident to convert these into reality.

>

> Some of the memorable photographs are attached herewith, for the

>benefit of the Bhakthakotis’ who were here present in mind but could not be

>present physically.
