Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathottamas, We all have very well realised that temples are central for the continuance of our traditions and cultural heritage. Our acharyas have established beyond doubt that Lord, invited by us (‘prathishta of deity is equivalent to this’) is living along with us for our benefit in the form of ‘Archvatharam’ which is similar to his performance in Krishnavatharam. Swamy Deshikan has aptly put ‘ Aapeethaath mouli paryantham pashyathaha Pusrushottamam, Pathakaanyaashu nashyanthi kimpunasthuupapathakam’ which means Lord exists in the form of archavatharam to help us see him and get us rid of our sins. Unfortunately, today the existence of these institutions are challenged by legislation 30/87 enacted by the late N.T.Rama Rao Government in A.P. during 1987. This legislation along with abetting administration and conniving vested interests have created irrepairable damage to the institutions leading them to loss of their glories. There are about 31000 temples in Andhra Pradesh alone which are completely without daily poojas. Excessive corruption, just like in any other govt. body has crept into the temple administrations which have lead to progressive commercialisation of religious activities. Darshan tickets which creates differences among devotees before the lord is in itself a shame on our religious system. Over and above this the corrupt authorities are rolling and re-rolling the same numbers so that the collections are not really adding to the intended temple fund. Websites sport a variety of arjitha sevas which are fantastically designed by qualified MBAs to attract devotees. There is also vested interest involved here. Strangely, it is only our hindu religious institutions which resort to such methodology to generate funds. Other institutions world wide are flourishing better with different means. Temples are places for selfless service and not places to make money! Today money collected from the rich temples of A.P goes to the Govt exchequer to pay hefty salaries to the officials. Yet poor Archakas are left to fend for themselves. Many prime temple lands have been auctioned for pittance and temples reduced to penury, while crores of money and land have been eaten away by the land grabbers in connivance with the authorities. Certain erstwhile pious temples have been reduced to gambling dens where alcohol and meat too finds place. Thanks to the anti-corruption bureau which brought to book some corrupt officials and recovered crores from them. But thats only the tip of the ice-berg. Many nice temples have slowly lost their art pieces and some of them even their utsava moorthies and one can imagine the plight of priceless jewels and ornaments. Having identified the tools of destruction of the pillars called ‘temples’ in the form of the legislation and excessively conniving authorities and vested interests, having singled out the pests, it is now time to strike with a heavy and weighted iron hand in the form of an organised move to stop everything which has been the offshoot of this legislation. As a first call for mass protest, the Temple Protection Movement convened by Prof. Soundararajan has requested all the devotees to refrain from buying tickets for various sevas in all the temples. Its a month since this call has been given and there is a great response from the devotees. Prof. Soundararajan, my father, has asked me to communicate this widely to the Bhagavatottamas of the net and appeal for their support. This is my first communique in an attempt to bring in awareness. Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: The learned Prof. N.P. Reddy garu has presented an alternate reason for the degradation in the Puja practices. While it is not proper to make sweeping statements about the misdemeanor of priests based on a few anti social elements, the Government controlled temples are also not blemishless. The bottomline is that corruption exists every where and we cannot apportion blame on one or the other exclusively. For example, We sent a couiple of years ago,a check for US$ 1000/= to TTD for what was touted as "Dasa Vrusha Seva", promising so many perks including free accommodation, admission to all the Sevas on the day required every year for a period of 10 years. But, what we got was a non-descrepit receipt showing it as for "Hundi". Several complaints pointing out the mistake went unheeded. When contacted, it was learned that they had taken it as a credit of US $ 100/= and as for "Hundi". There was none in the TTD willing to own responsibility or to set right the mistake till today, even though documentary evidence was made available to them. Only the Lord knows where the $1000/= had been stashed and who has misappropriated it. I am sure this is not a solitary instance and many more would have been vistims of such frauds. However, Sri Ranga Sri" is not the forum to discuss the subject, I request Bhagavatas NOT to post any responses to "Sri Ranga Sri" but to take up with Prof. Soundararajan and his band of dedicated volunteers to probe into such vagaries on the part of TTD. The original mail was approved only by way of information so that Bhagavatas may be warned againt such malpractices and NOT for initiating any debate or discussion in this forum. These temples are without poojas not because of the government, but because of the corrupt priests. Our ancestors have given land to them to take care of the temples, but the degradation of these preists have resulted in not performing the required poojas. >Excessive corruption, just like in any > other govt. body has crept into the temple > administrations which have lead to progressive > commercialisation of religious activities. The temples which have been taken over by the government are runni8g well and are well organized when compared to the temples run by power hungry and corrupt priests. Please visit any north Indian Temple, and you will see what is happening. >Darshan > tickets which creates differences among devotees > before the lord is in itself a shame on our > religious system. Having arjitha sevas does not mean that there are differences in the dovotees before the Lord. Atleast that way, it is insured thate the poojas are conducted. Otherwise, the priest altogether abondon the diety worship turing the people into converting to ther relegions. Arjitha Sevas ddo not represnt a shame on our relegious system. In fact it represents, the participation of a householder in the dialy activities of the temple. Kings used to sponsor these poojas. Not doing the pooja is a shame on our relegious system. It represents the hijaking of God by the unscrupulous priests. > Websites sport a > variety of arjitha sevas which are fantastically > designed by qualified MBAs to attract devotees. > There is also vested interest involved here. > Strangely, > it is only our hindu religious > institutions which resort to such methodology to > generate funds. Other institutions world wide are > flourishing better with different means. In other relegious sytems in other countries, the people are well informed of their relegion, and they contribute 10% of their salary to the church. On the other hand, the average hindu has been kept in the dark. Let alone the average hindu, even the priest do not know how many puranas exist. Out of the 3200 temples in Andhra Pradesh, more than half are in the hands of igorant priests who are not even educated and are not even interested in learning about their relegion. >Temples are > places for selfless service and not places to make > money! Yes, that is the reason the north Indian temples are very disorganized and without poojas to the dieties, They are not under the control of government. >Today money collected from the rich temples > of A.P goes to the Govt > exchequer to pay hefty salaries to the officials. > Yet poor Archakas are left to fend for themselves. I agree that the archakas have to paid well. >Certain > erstwhile pious temples have been reduced to > gambling dens where alcohol and meat too finds > place. Yes, some of the priests in my village have turned to meat eating, gambling , and illicity sex, etc. That is the reason, the governemnt should come in and appoint qualified priests. The qualified priests are not controlling the temples. What we need is the priest replaced by qualified and well trained priests (such as those trained by JET Vedic Patasshala) should be offered the jobs. T. > organised move to stop everything which has been > the offshoot of this legislation. As a first call > Prof. Soundararajan has requested all > the devotees to refrain from buying tickets for > various sevas in all the temples. You do not want to support the temples, and you do not want to have the poojas continued. >This is my first communique in an attempt > to bring in awareness. Kali pususha exists in power and money, let our priests refrain from these and continue with dovoted poojas to our dieties, Please leave such reforms to well versed experts like our beloved Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Srin Narayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeya Swamy garu. With all glories to Lord Sri Venkateswara, and prayers for the continuation of the diety worship for thousands of yugas to come, Sincerely, Narender Reddy Protect your identity with Mail AddressGuard http://antispam./whatsnewfree
